Animal Welfare League - Richmond, Indiana Animal shelter in Richmond, IN

The Animal Welfare League is Richmond city shelter. We accept any animals from the Wayne County area and take all the animals that Animal Control rescues. Strays are held for five business days so their family has time to come an claim them. If they do not we vaccinate, worm, bathe, and them up on social media or homing websites to find them a new fur-ever home. in special cases we send them to more suitable rescues.

We have made an important step in helping our dogs find homes. We will no longer be giving any of our dogs specific breed types. Research done by the National Canine Research Council shows how inaccurate visual identification of a dog's breed is. In a study cited by the National Canine Research Council, 5000+ breeder, trainers, veterinarians, shelter staff, rescuers and others were asked to visually identify various dog breeds. in the end they were right less than 1/3 of the time.

Additional adoption info

Dog adoptions are $85.00, puppies are $100.00, cat adoptions are $65.00 and kittens are $85.00.
The fee pays for the animals to be spayed/neutered at participating vets. We give you back the amount in the form of a voucher and a date to have them fixed by. If we do not receive the voucher back from your vet we will do a follow up and move from there as to how the situation will be handled. You are able to take your loving fur baby home that day. If you have other pets we ask to do a meet and greet on neutral ground.
