The first and only animal shelter in the Slate Belt Region of Pennsylvania (Northampton County) covering Roseto, Bangor, East Bangor, Washington Twsp, Portland, Upper Mt Bethel, Lower Mt Bethel, Plainfield, Wind Gap, & Pen Argyl.

Controlling the pet population of the Slate Belt in a humane and responsible manner. Educating the community regarding responsible animal ownership. Protecting animals from abuse and neglect. Sponsoring low cost clinic such as TNR, microchipping and vaccination.

Additional adoption info

STEP 1: Application received & reviewed
* Review can take up to 3 days
STEP 2: Reference Interviews
* A minimum of 2 out of 3 personal and 1 vet reference must be interviewed.
* Timing depends on response time of references.
STEP 3: Home Inspection
* Scheduled within a week of completion of application & interviews.
STEP 4: Meet & Greet with Adoptable Animal & Household Pets
* Generally scheduled within days of Home Inspection.
* If home has no other pets this can be done at the same time as the Home Inspection.
STEP 5: Adoption Day
* Have your minimum adoption donation ready. (We accept cash or check made payable to SBAAG)
* Have all your supplies ready including crate, dishes, leash & collar.
* A safe means of transportation is required for pickups. (Pet seat belt, crate, etc)
* Your new pet will be dropped off with a small bag of its current food for
slow transitioning to what food you've chosen.
* You will be given a copy of your new pets medical records.
* A copy of the signed adoption contract will be emailed to you within 48 hours.
STEP 6: 30 Day Check-In
* See how life in the house is going.
* Check that spay/ neuter has been done if needed
* Check animals body, weight, eyes and general demeanor.
* Give tips if needed.
STEP 7: 90 Day Check-In
* See how life in the house is going.
* Check animals body, weight, eyes and general demeanor.
* Reminder of upcoming vaccination requirements
* Check that dog has been licensed.
