Finger Lakes SPCA of CNY Animal shelter in Auburn, NY

Our Mission Statement
. . . alleviate the suffering, promote the comforts,
. . .improve the conditions of animals,
. . .and prevent cruelty to animals.

Who We Are
The Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York (formerly known as the Cayuga County SPCA) is committed to the humane treatment of animals through prevention of cruelty, education, spaying or neutering, a strong adoption program and by promoting responsible pet ownership. Every day its compassionate staff and volunteers provide food, shelter, medical care and comfort to the many animals that are abandoned or relinquished by their owners. As a limited admission shelter, we do not euthanize animals for kennel space. Euthanasia is considered only if the animal is known to be aggressive, has bitten without being provoked, or is sick/injured beyond the shelter's financial means. The FL SPCA is not the same as ASPCA. We do not receive any funds from the ASPCA, in fact we pay annual dues to them. We are not a county organization and receive no funding from the county. Public donations are currently our most important source of income.

The FL SPCA is working to reduce pet over-population by mandatory spay/neuter of all animals (of appropriate age) being adopted from the shelter before the new owner takes possession. The shelter (pictured above) was built in 1954 and is still in use today.

In an attempt to help stem the pet overpopulation crisis, in October 2007 the Shelter began low-cost spay-neuter clinics three times per month for low income pet owners, and those individuals who care for feral, barn and stray cats.

Additional adoption info

Our Adoption Process
The process begins with the completion of an adoption application. Once the application is turned in, there is a mandatory 24-48hour (depending on the day of the week) waiting period. This time allows us to review the application, as well as giving the potential owner the opportunity to think through their decision. Please remember adopting an animal is a long-term responsibility. Approved applicants must return to the shelter and complete the adoption paperwork in person, at that time the staff will call to arrange a spay/neuter appointment with a participating veterinarian (if the animal was not previously altered). All animals must remain at the shelter until their appointment date. Shelter staff will transport the pet to the veterinarian's office, however, the new owner will be responsible for picking up the pet following surgery.

ADOPTION FEES
Dogs/Puppies $138-156
Cats/Kittens $95-120

Spay/Neuter Varied fee depending of species/sex (unless previously altered)
