Mission Statement
The mission of the Siberian Husky Rescue of Florida, Inc. is to rescue stray, abused, surrendered and unwanted Siberian Huskies.
Within the constraints set by our ability to raise funds we will spay or neuter them if required, provide affordable medical care whenever possible, provide microchip installation and registration, and house them in foster homes when and as needed until suitable permanent homes are found.
It will be the policy of this organization that all dogs placed for adoption must be spayed or neutered.
Siberian Husky Rescue of Florida, Inc. will not accept most mixed breed dogs, therefore breed knowledgeable and other identification experts within the organization will make the determination as to whether or not the dog has purebred, or mostly purebred, Siberian Husky breed attributes.
Purpose Statement
The purpose of this not for profit organization shall be to assist area animal control agencies, humane societies, and Siberian Husky owners with the humane care and disposition of such purebred dogs.
All funds received by the corporation will benefit the Siberian Huskies within the adoption program exclusively.
Our Philosophy
We have had many comments over the years on our policies and procedures in adopting out our Siberian Huskies. While the overwhelming majority of these comments are quite favorable, at times we are accused of being too fussy, finicky, strict and/or uncompromising in our adoption requirements. Our adoption donation is sometimes considered too high.
We understand some of these objections but potential adopters need to be aware of our rationale when it comes to our Siberian Huskies.
First and foremost we believe that an adopter is making a lifetime commitment to the love, care, health and safety of the animal. Neither more nor less than one would expect when adopting a human child. The adopter is not supplying a home to something that is “just a dog”. If one thinks that way they should not apply for one of our Siberians. If you adopt a young Husky and they do what most every young dog does; have bathroom accidents in the house, chew on your furniture, knock things over and generally just run around having fun you should be tolerant of their actions. They will learn what they are allowed to do and what they are not if you give them a modicum of patience and firm but non-violent instruction.
We are occasionally accused of being unforgiving when an adoption of one dog does not work out and we do not allow a particular adopter to try another one. This happens rarely but it does happen and will almost always stem from the potential adopter indicating a severe lack of just what it takes, both in dog knowledge and temperament, to make a proper home for a dog as unique as a Husky.
Our adoption donations, while at the outset may seem high, are carefully calculated to cover only the most basic expenses for an individual dog. Many of our dogs come to us with abuse or medical problems and we spend what is necessary to get the dog back to reasonably good health.
We pay to have all our adoptable dogs spayed/neutered; treated for heartworm, sarcoptic mange and other diseases, bathed, groomed and microchipped. SHRF provides loving foster homes and we try to crate train, house train and obedience train the dogs as much as possible. We ensure all our dogs are up to date with their vaccines, flea and tick treatments.
If required, we pay the animal shelter adoption fees to take these dogs out of the shelters, saving them from being euthanized in most instances, and then provide the funding for their expenses while being fostered (boarding/food/toys/crates). If not for some fundraising events and donations from corporations and the general public our adoption donations would have to be substantially higher. Remember, your local county shelter is primarily subsidized by local taxes and yet they still charge an adoption fee, albeit an amount that may be less than our suggested donation. Every cent taken in by Siberian Husky Rescue of Florida, Inc. goes toward our dogs’ expenses. Our personnel are volunteers in the true sense of the word; one who performs or offers to perform a service, out of his or her own free will, without payment.
We can almost guarantee that in all but the rarest of cases adopting a Siberian Husky will bring you a surprising amount of joy and contentment. Their exuberance, loyalty, affection and penchant for high glee are contagious.
