The Hinsdale Humane Society is a non-profit organization founded in 1953
dedicated to the care and adoption of unwanted and abandoned animals
and the offering of humane education programs to prevent suffering and neglect.

Dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are available for adoption at the shelter.

The Hinsdale Humane Society maintains its operation through the fundraising efforts of its volunteers and members. As a non-profit organization it receives no public monies but depends entirely upon the generosity of a caring public. Those who share the goals and values of the Society are urged to help in whatever way they can.

How to Adopt an Animal from HHS

Each year hundreds of homeless animals are united with caring adopters at HHS. Our goal is to make appropriate, permanent matches between adopters and our shelter animals. Our staff members are trained to help families find just the right animal for their needs.

We invite you begin your search for a loving pet. Here is how our adoption process works:

Visit the Shelter to meet our available adoptable pets.
Find the perfect pet? Talk with our adoption counselor to determine if the animal is well suited for your family.
Meet with the animals one-on-one! Our adoption counselor will set you up in our get acquainted area to interact with the animal you choose.
Finalize the adoption. Complete the adoption contract and receive a Pet Adoption Kit which includes your contract, pet care handbook, literature and ID tag.
All animals must be spayed or neutered before they go home. If they are not already altered, you will be able to pick up your new pet within 2-3 days.
Adoption Fees
The adoption fee for each animal varies and is dependent on many factors including: breed, age, size, behavior, physical condition, and public demand. Higher priced animals leave a financial legacy for other animals in our care that may need extensive medical care or more time to find a loving home.
