The Cat House - Feline Sanctuary, Inc. Cat rescue in Ashland, OH

There are people in this world who love all different kinds of animals for different reasons. We love them all and then we are passionate about others. We are passionate about cats. There are next to no shelters in Ashland Ohio that take in cats and the population is out of control.

So instead of sitting around and saying "someone should do something, we decided to do something" and built a sanctuary in 2005.

We originally housed 60 homeless/abandoned cats then expanded in 2008 to house 90. At one point we had 110, added another apartment and got the numbers back down to 90.

100% of your donation goes directly to the care of our cats, we have NO paid staff. As the director, I supplement the money we need to run the shelter and do not receive a salary to do so.

It is critical for us to receive outside financial support. We are a 501(c)(3) charity so any donations may be tax deductible.

Make a difference in a cat's life, donate today! We are a dedicated group of volunteers; myself included, who consider this our God given talent and we serve gladly.

Rescue FAQs

We are one of the only cat shelters in Ashland County, Ashland, Ohio, that accepts abandoned/homeless cats/kittens. Our capacity is 90 cats/kittens, and we are always at capacity.

As we adopt we take another off the streets to replace the space. We are funded solely through the donations and generosity of the public, and cannot survive without financial support from the community at large.

We now accept paypal and that information is on our website. We receive grant funding only for special community projects for cats, but not for our shelter cats housing and food. Our cats are not in cages but are free roaming in their sanctuary.

We know all of their personalities, good and bad habits, who would make a good match for each prospective family.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption fees vary between adults and kittens. Our kittens come with an age appropriate program (provided through certificate) for our veterinarian only.

We make sure all our cats receive a health screening, tested for feline aids and feline leukemia when appropriate ages, spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated for rabies (1yr), distemper and leukemia.

We also worm and flea treat all of our cats, again all as age appropriate. We also treat any cat/kitten that comes to our sanctuary for any illnesses present, or that develop while in our care.

We require an appointment for adopting, as well as a verifiable veterinarian reference, which we require prior to scheduling an actual adoption visit.

We contact your veterinarian reference to insure our cats/kittens are being placed in responsible, loving homes.

Additionally, we require a cat carrier be brought to the adoption appointment for transport home. No laundry baskets, boxes, lap holding, is acceptable. No exceptions.

We have a private shelter address other than our mailing address which is featured on this site. Many of our cats are in foster care, so appropriate appointments need to be made with proper foster families. Our cats are featured on our website as well as PetFinder.com and our Facebook page.
