YTCA Rescue, Inc. Dog rescue in Orange County, CA

YTCA Rescue Inc. is a national 501 C3 non-profit rescue group dedicated to saving pure bred Yorkshire Terrier dogs. YTCA Rescue is affiliated with the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America with this being the Southern California branch. We're contacted regularly by people who desperately want to surrender their dogs, by the elderly who can no longer care for their pet, by people in relationships where the dog has become an issue, by those who were told they were buying a "Tea-Cup" Yorkie and when fully grown was much larger than expected, or by people who have a dog who is not getting along with their new baby or young children. Thousands of dogs are euthanized in shelters monthly due to circumstances like these. Most of our rescue dogs have been through so much already. Our goal is to find them the highest quality permanent homes that are the very best match, where they can live out the rest of their lives being properly cared for, spoiled, and loved. Please keep in mind that most Yorkshire Terriers are between 5 to 12lbs. There is no such thing as a Tea-Cup Yorkie. Occasionally we will get a smaller dog under 5lbs, but that is not the typical Yorkie that ends up in rescue groups.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process begins when an adoption application is requested or submitted online. We review the completed application and those who are believed to be a good match and a high quality home for the dog will have a phone interview. We require a veterinary reference & 3 personal references. All references are checked, then an in-person interview/meeting with Rescue coordinator, applicant & pet takes place. If we believe the applicant is the right match for the dog, a home visit is then conducted. Our goal is a high quality home that is right for each dog - not the first applicant or any "good home." Our adoption donations range from $100 to $850 depending on the individual dog. Once a dog is adopted, the new owners have a 2-3 week trial period to determine if the dog is indeed a match for their family. If the dog is not a match, the dog must be returned to us and we return all but $50 (to offset adoption expenses) of the adoption donation. We have written, legally binding contracts with all who adopt a dog. Prior to adoption, all dogs are spayed or neutered, updated on vaccinations when needed, microchipped, dewormed, groomed, treated for fleas and ticks, and receive dentals from our vet (unless they are very young puppies or have recently had a dental). We do have adoption guidelines, however our adoption committee will consider an applicant who does not typically fall within these guidelines. We understand that each applicant and each dog is an individual, and our goal is to find the best possible home and match. Our adoption guidelines are as follows: we do not typically adopt dogs to individuals under 25 yrs of age, or to families with children under 8 yrs of age. We do not know the history of most of our dogs, and we feel it is irresponsible to put our rescue dogs and young children at risk of becoming the victims of an unfortunate incident. Submitting an application does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt from us.
