Additional adoption info

http://www.voiceless-mi.org/process/

Our goal is to place all of our dogs in the –right– home for each individual dog. Every dog has its own unique needs and personality. Some dogs are high energy and require an active family. Others are “couch potatoes” and would do best in a laid back home without children, etc. We want our adoptive homes to be the final home so we strive to match our dogs with the right family.

Our adoption process includes a phone interview, references from your veterinarian, personal references and a visit to your home. Because we tend to work with large and giant breeds, we generally require home ownership and a fenced yard. However, based on the dog, we will make exceptions to the home ownership and/or fenced yard requirement.

The veterinary reference will require that your past or currents pets have a history of receiving routine annual veterinary care including general health exams, heartworm testing, the purchase of heartworm preventative, vaccines, and any other medical needs suggested in your veterinarian notes. If your veterinary cannot provide records that reflect the annual care mentioned above, your application will likely not be approved.

The first step in our adoption process is to submit the adoption application using the link on the dogs’ petfinder advertisement or, at the top of the adoptable pet listing. Once the application is received, a volunteer will conduct reference checks. Next, the volunteer will call you to conduct a phone interview. If both parties feel the dog and family are a good match, then we arrange the home visit. We have rescue contacts all over the Midwest so we are happy to consider out-of-state families!! During the home visit, we simply spend 15-20 minutes learning more about your family, your lifestyle, etc. to further make sure the dog would be a good match. And finally, we invite you to meet the dog so you can determine whether or not this is the right dog for you. And then we finalize the adoption!

If you feel you meet the above criteria for adoption, we hope you’ll consider one of our wonderful dogs!
