My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Carnation is a 12 year old siberian husky who we rescued from the Downey Shelter on October 16, 2023. She is the sweetest, most people friendly dog. She loves to give kisses! They said she is 12. She doens't act that old! She is spry, loves her walks and likes to play with toys! She is super friendly with people. She is dog friendly and lives with our pack. Occasionally when meeting a new dog she will jump on their neck to say, hello, but is not aggressive nor does she bite the dog. When she first arrived she was not spayed and had a huge tumor in her eye. As can be guessed, she was leary of dogs and "greeted" them with a growl, She has been spayed and had her tumor removed. our sanctuary is supposed to be for old, hospice dogs, not spry playful young at heart dogs. So when she gets a forever home, we will have space to save another senior dog.

We have the potential adopter come meet the dog and bring their dog for a meet and greet. For cats, they just meet the cat by itself.

we keep our fees low to encourage adoptions of senior dogs. Our kitten fees are based on cost to S/N, vaccinate and chip them.

Go meet their pets

Some of our adoptable dogs are in foster homes throughout LA County. They can be brought to the sanctuary for you to meet. We also have dogs at the sanctuary available for adoption. Our cats and kittens are also in foster or at the sanctuary and can be brought to the sanctuary to meet. Currently we are by appointment only, but we are willing to work with your schedule. We do open houses one saturday a month.

Golden Years Dog Sanctuary, a 501c3 non-profit dog and cat rescue, is located at Goldspirit Farm, nestled at the base of Angeles National Forest in Kagel Canyon, Los Angeles County. The dogs have their own half acre run with dog houses and a dogominium complete with custom built beds, carpeting, heating and air conditioning. They also get to roam on eleven acres of doggy heaven known as Goldspirit Farm.
