My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cayenne was an owner surrender from a hoarding-type situation. He and 6 other cats were brought into FFAA together from this owner; they had never been handled by another human other than him.

Cayenne is a gorgeous mostly black cat with a noticeable salt and pepper silver/white ticking throughout his coat and a super cute, round head. Cayenne has gone from a terrified recluse to a social, affectionate, and confident cat. Every month, he reveals a new facet of his personality. Originally unable to even interact with people, he slowly started to warm up and would accept slow and gentle pets as long as he stayed inside his kennel. So we compromised for awhile -- for a couple of months, every day we'd open his door and place a cat tree right underneath his door. He'd slowly descend and spend hours laying and observing -- but never getting off onto the floor. And then one day, we walked into the cat room and saw him out! He'd run back to his condo at first, but the more time out he spent, the more comfortable he became.

Today, you would not even recognize him as the same cat that came in. He now reaches out with his paws and moves your hand to pet him, demanding more cuddles if you stop too soon! He goes anywhere he wants in the cat room, no longer afraid of anything. He interacts with the other cats, taking a special interest in a fatherly role towards the smallest kittens - as chaotic is they are, many adult cats do not like spending time around them, but Cayenne can often be seen with a kitten sharing his bed or getting a thorough bathing from his attentive tongue.

While we have loved watching Cayenne's transformation, after six long months here, we think he's ready to move on to find his forever home. We know that as enchanting and enjoyable as he is here, his personality will be so much greater in his own space with his own family -- that sense of security will be the final piece of the puzzle as he becomes who he was always meant to be.
