My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Scroll through his pictures to see his videos!

Hamilton is a 3 year old little cutie who came to us from Chicago Animal Care and Control. We've never met a dog that looks like him! He is like a mini-pittie/chihuahua or something. Whatever he is, it is adorable AND sweet.

Hamilton is currently our longest-term dog, having been with us since last May! He is the last remaining "flood survivor" not yet adopted! Meaning he survived the flood that destroyed our shelter on 6/26/24, and displaced us for 8 months!

That time was actually a blessing for many dogs who got to move into foster homes, including Hammy. Hammy has two wonderful foster moms, Yazmin and Diana, who share custody of him. We are so grateful to his foster moms who have worked out a system that has spared Hammy having to be in boarding or at the shelter, where he was so unhappy and stressed.

His foster moms just adore him. And we know he is not everyone's cup of tea, but if you like a quirky yet loving dog, Hammy is your man!

Hamilton is a wonderful little guy. Hamilton *loves* toys more than anything, especially the types that squeak. You can always get his attention with a squeaker! Hamilton loves to carry stuffies on walks, and is so proud of himself.

We think it's funny that Hamilton is a little finicky with his food - he knows what he likes and won't settle for less! Wet food? Heck no. Parmesan sprinkled on his kibble? Yes please! He will stick his nose up at different treats, but we've found what he does like and pupperoni is the winner.

Here are some key points about Hammy courtesy of his foster moms. We hope you will read on and perhaps inquire about our special little guy!

"Here are some of my fave Hammy-isms:

Easy to walk! He rarely pulls and is happy to trot at your pace. In the events that he does start to pull, no worries because he is easily distracted! Bring a squeaky toy with you on walks: one squeak and voila!

House broken: no accidents in the home. He is a quirky dog that may not necessarily tell you he needs to go out by running to the door. Instead, if he gets a bit of the zoomies, starts to climb on you, or even if he sits in front of you and offers his paw, those are his way of letting you know he needs to go out.

He isn’t affectionate in the way that you’d think: he isn’t the biggest fan of getting hugs but he will always try to sit close to you as much as possible and will definitely follow you around like a shadow.

He is left in a crate when I am out of house for more extended periods. When I come home, he picks up whatever toy was in the crate with him and gets zoomies with toy in his mouth. Once he is done with zoomies, he will come over with full body wiggles to get some pets.

He also likes to sleep in bed with me in the evenings. And he is not a bed hog! He is happy to curl up beside you and doesn’t really move throughout the night, so he will not disturb you.

And speaking of not disturbing you: Hammy doesn’t really bark indoors! The most he does is whine here and there but that’s really it. He will occasionally jump into view while I am on work calls, but he is always cheered when he does that. He has a fan club."

Hamilton's adoption fee is sponsored by a generous admirer of his. This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
