My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! I'm Sandy! I'm from Kansas.

From her foster: This sweet Southern girl is low energy, exceptionally smart, trainable, food motivated and snuggly-so snuggly. She's housebroken, non destructive, and leash trained. Sandy knows how to sit, go to her bed, wait to greet people at the door, and is working on the wait/stay command.

Sandy has total chill vibes. Calm, loves her naps, and would be a great binge-watching partner on the couch. Her favorite thing is to curl up on your lap, under a blanket, while you are reading, working, or watching TV. She’s a low energy dog who is happy with short walks, especially during the cold weather. Sandy hates the cold but she’ll go out if enticed with cheese or chicken. Mostly, she just wants to hang out and be around her people.

No roommate is perfect, and Sandy is working on her issues. Her biggest challenge is that she has shown resource guarding, especially around her special things, like food or blankets. If left alone in her bed with her items, there are no issues. If she thinks you are trying to take one of her things she has reacted. If Sandy leaves her bed and you take the item out, there are no issues.

For this reason Sandy would likely do best as the only dog in the home. Sandy has no prey drive and doesn’t care about cats, bunnies, or squirrels.

She had separation anxiety, and barks or whines when crated. This improved as she felt safer, but we are working on getting her more comfortable in her crate. Given her intelligence, she makes progress quickly with proper and consistent training. Sandy has already had 12 weeks of obedience training.

Even as she builds her trust, Sandy is still all heart. For someone who has the time to help her work through her challenges and who’s willing to give this sweet girl snuggles and affection, she will gratefully give you back love and affection tenfold.

Go meet their pets

The Bond Between's goal is to not keep any animals at our rescue office. The majority of our animals are living in foster homes until they are adopted. Occasionally, animals are living in our rescue office that are in need of a foster home.

If you would like to meet an animal at our office who needs a foster, please reach out to inofficeanimals@thebondbetween.org and fill out our foster interest form at https://www.thebondbetween.org/foster

For more information on fostering or adoptable animals, please visit https://www.thebondbetween.org.

More about this rescue

The Bond Between is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that focuses on the bond between humans and animals. We were founded in 2009 as Secondhand Hounds. Since then, we have rescued over 29,000 dogs and cats with the help of thousands of fosters, volunteers, and supporters in our community. Our organization has grown from a rescue to a first-in-its-class animal wellbeing organization... now The Bond Between! We continue to provide safe shelter, proper veterinary care, and daily necessities for animals while working hard to help them build a bond with humans. We also focus on supporting the bonds that already exist between people and pets with our pet food shelf, respite foster care program, and focus on social services.

We wake up every morning saying YES to connecting people and animals, caring for them, and helping them fill each other’s hearts.

You can help support us today by donating, fostering, volunteering, or sharing The Bond Between.
