My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MONROE ~~ Domestic Shorthair, Neutered Male, Black, 14.5 pounds, DOB: 4/14/2015

I'm sweet. I'm sassy (sometimes). I'm big and friendly too. Come meet me!

Meet our big (and sometimes sassy or spicy) boy Monroe! He is absolutely stunning with a silky, shiny sable black coat. If you are a fan of large male cats, Monroe is your guy! He's got a quirky personality and is fun to be around.

He is eligible for our Seniors for Seniors Adoption Program, so if you are a senior citizen yourself and would like to adopt him, we will waive his adoption fee and give you a 20% discount on future vet services, food, medications, etc., if purchased from us. You'd never know this boy is a senior pet from his swagger and demeanor.

ABOUT MONROE: He's an independent guy and may take a little time to get used to new people. Give him the time and space to get to know you, and before you know it, he will be rubbing on your legs and may even reward you by jumping up in your lap. He’d enjoy a cat tree, scratching post, and some comfy beds with a large window nearby.

Monroe definitely has some cat-itude ~~ he can be spunky at times and wants love and affection on his terms (like many cats). Monroe may not be a cuddly lap cat today~~ but then may surprise you and jump into your lap tomorrow. He is currently on Gabapentin (for boarding anxiety) and is responding well to that. He should be able to be weaned off his meds once he's happy in his new home.

OTHER PETS/KIDS? Monroe may do well with other calm and non-aggressive pets in the home. We always recommend a slow and controlled introduction over a week or two. Monroe should be fine with older children who understand his likes and dislikes.

MEDICAL: Monroe is healthy, current on vaccines/vet services, has a negative fecal test and combo test. He will come to his new home with one month of Feline Revolution Plus for heartworms, fleas, ticks, intestinal parasites and ear mites. Monroe requests to be an indoor only pet.

To meet Monroe and see if he is a purr-fect match, visit him at Crabapple Knoll Vet Clinic, 12604 Crabapple Road, Alpharetta, GA. 770.475.8272. Please visit at least two hours prior to closing. Monday to Friday 630AM to 7PM, Saturday and Sunday 8AM to 4PM. We are closed on all major holidays.

Additional adoption info

Our goal is to find good homes for all of the sick and injured pets we have, and to adopt them out in the best health possible. Each pet is fully vetted and cared for by our amazing Veterinary Staff! Our adoption fee is $130, which includes a spay or neuter, age appropriate vaccines, and a microchip. We offer a two week trial period, during which time you may return the pet for a full refund if the placement does not work out. We will accept a pet back after two weeks, but no refund will be issued. If a pet is returned after a longer time period we may require a $130 relinquishment fee. We do not perform home visits or have any particular adoption requirements, such as fenced yard. We do, however, reserve the right to turn down potential adopters if we feel like it will not be in the best interest of the pet.

Go meet their pets

Our Clinic is located at 12604 Crabapple Road, Alpharetta, Georgia 30004. Our hours of operation are Monday-Friday 6:30AM to 7:00PM and Saturday-Sunday 8AM to 4PM. We have a few adoption events at the Clinic each year. All of our adoptable pets may be visited at the Clinic at any time. However, if a pet is labeled as being fostered, please call ahead so we can arrange to have the pet available for you.

More about this rescue

Our Stray Program began in 1988, with one dog named Redman. He was rescued by a client who indicated that he had belonged to a homeless man. The man had since disappeared, and the red Chow was ill and now living on his own. We brought him to our Clinic and named him Redman. He tested heartworm positive, was treated for that condition and was also neutered. One of our Veterinarians fell in love and adopted him. Unfortunately, Redman did not live long due to heartworm disease, but enjoyed several great years with his new owner. It was because of Redman that our Stray Program for sick and injured animals came to fruition. We began a fund to support the Program and, since then, have found many sick and injured pets their forever homes! Thanks to Dr. Joe Gaston, we are able to continue our work to help sick and injured strays, and have the opportunity to give back to our pet community!
