My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Tommy!
Hello, my name is Tommy! I’m a 6-month-old mix of Australian cattle dog, American Staffordshire terrier, and hound, weighing in at 16 pounds of pure joy and personality. I’m a lively, affectionate pup who loves meeting people of all ages and sizes, and I’ll always greet you with a wagging tail and plenty of kisses. I adore belly rubs, snuggling in laps, and spending quality time with my favorite humans.

I’m at the perfect age to adopt since I’m still a puppy with playful energy but have already learned my basic commands like “no,” “off,” “sit,” and “wait.” I’m fully housebroken and past the nippy/teething stage, so I’m ready to settle into a loving home without the extra challenges of early puppyhood. I also get along wonderfully with cats, respecting their space and coexisting peacefully with them in my foster home.

I thrive on companionship and enjoy playing chase, tug-of-war, and zooming around the yard with my brother, Timmy, and the older, bigger dogs in my foster home. Despite being the runt of my litter, I’m the leader when it comes to sibling adventures! When playtime is over, I’m all about cuddling—whether it’s on the couch, in a dog bed, or better yet, right in your lap.

I sleep peacefully in my crate at night, waking up accident-free and ready to start the day. I’m a fast learner, especially when treats are involved, and I walk well on a leash, though I’d prefer the freedom of a fenced yard to run and explore.

My personality is the perfect balance of playful and affectionate. I bring a lively energy to the home but know how to relax and enjoy quiet moments with my family. I’d make an amazing addition to any home looking for a loving, outgoing, and fun companion.

If you’re ready to meet your new best friend, I can’t wait to fill your days with love, laughter, and plenty of snuggles. Could I be the one for you?

Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping.

More about this rescue

We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.

The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.

Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.

While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.

We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
