My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Millie is a sweet, sensitive, skittish 3.5-year-old female beagle who was recently given up by her family due to no fault of her own. She weighs around 32 lbs. and built like a bowling ball.

Millie is very much a people-oriented dog. Millie is a super-snuggler and just wants to get close to her humans. If her human is sitting on the couch, she will paw at them to get under the blanket to cuddle up. She likes to follow her human from room to room but does not get demanding about attention.

Millie is very skittish around strangers and takes a bit of time to get used to new people. She will bark at a new guest for a while. She is working on this at her foster home, but progress has been slow. She will adjust to new guests after a visit or two.
After she adjusts to a person, she is her normal sweet self. Millie will need a family who can be patient with her about this trait.

Millie has relatively good house manners. She uses the dog door in her foster home to go outside. Millie does not get into items that do not belong to her but can be too nosey around human food. She will get on her hind legs to stick her nose up to the edge of the counter if a plate of food is kept too close to the edge. Millie is very excitable when outside on walks and tends to a plow horse when on a leash. Millie sleeps in a kennel at night, but she would much prefer sleeping in the human bed. She can also get a little anxious when left alone, but she settles down after a bit.

Millie would do great with a family that works from home or is retired. She is a great dog once she gets out of her shell. After being in her foster home for only a few weeks, her confidence has noticeably grown. The right home will give this sweet girl the right environment to thrive.

We also periodically hold special activities, and occasionally attend Houston-area adoption events which will be listed on our "events" section of our website.
