My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Shayna – a petite (just 35 lbs!) bundle of love and energy who's ready to make your life a little brighter! This sweet, playful girl is around 1 year and 1 month old, and (we think) she’s a delightful mix of Dutch Shepherd and Cattle Dog. Shayna was rescued from Pima Animal Care Center after being surrendered by her owner due to health issues, and now she's looking for her new forever home!

Shayna is super smart and eager to please, which makes her an excellent learner. She knows “sit” for treats and is working on perfecting her leash skills – she’d probably be an awesome trail buddy for someone who loves outdoor adventures! Not only is she potty trained, but she’s also a pro at using the doggy door.

When you come home, get ready for a big, enthusiastic welcome from Shayna! She’s always excited to see you and loves to shower you with affection. She enjoys snuggling up for tummy rubs, and while she happily sleeps in her own dog bed at night, she’d love the opportunity to curl up with you if you’re open to it.

This girl loves her outdoor time and can often be found lounging in the yard, soaking up the sunshine (or just contemplating life). Shayna gets along well with her two female canine roommates, but we’re not sure how she feels about cats just yet. And yes – she still has some puppy energy! Get ready for the occasional zoomies when she’s feeling extra playful.

Shayna has been spayed, is up-to-date on her shots, heartworm negative, and is just waiting to meet the right family who will give her all the love and attention she deserves. Could that family be you?

More about this rescue

Hello! Thanks for checking us out. We are a 501-c3 non profit rescue and rehab service in Tucson, AZ

We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs from the streets of Mexico in cooperation with other animal rescue organizations in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Our shelter in Hermosillo, Sonora, Vidas Con Causa, currently has over 150 dogs. There, we provide medical care and a loving place for them to heal before coming to the US, then we foster and work on finding the perfect fit for adoption. You can also visit the available dogs at the rescue in Mexico. Our rescue partners spend a lot of time getting to know the dogs and we know MOST of their
perks and quirks!

We help special needs dogs, the amputees, the pregnant Pitties, the MexiMutts, those from small independent shelters who don't get much notice, the cancer patients. We provide round-the-clock care until these dogs are ready for rehoming.
