Update from Natalie's foster mom:
I thought I would send you a status on Natalie now that we have gotten to know her better. She is extremely sweet and gentle and seems to have a velcro personality. Very soft mouth when taking food. Excellent house manners. My first impression of Natalie is that she is a very people oriented dog.
Low drive so far, but I think she is probably out of shape so her stamina and energy level should increase. But she's definitely on the low-medium end.
Obedience:
- Recall: maybe 50% but I'm optimistic that will improve. She is eager to please.
- We are not working on OB yet. We tried a few commands this morning (sit, stay, down) and she didn't know them.
- Walking on a leash: minimal skills but responds weIl to leash pressure. Our fenced "yard" is huge so we are doing long line walks.
- Thresholds: She is starting to understand that she can't rush through doors or gates.
Crates:
- She was very scared of the crate in my car but rode in it fine once we got her in. Not sure she will do well in a crate but I'll see about introducing it later once she decompresses more. Not pushing the issue because she is so good in the house and sleeps on her bed all night and during the day when not outside.
Working on: slow intro to my female dog and finding a food she will eat. We had success with a new food this evening and she ate her whole dinner, yay!
