My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cassidy is a 4 year, 7 month old female Golden (105lbs... very overweight) and her brother Comet who is 6 years 4 months old at 78 lbs, have been surrendered to GRRAND as their owner has severe health issues which have taken her ability to take care of her dogs away, and GRRAND was contacted. We are told they are both house-broken, and have full fun of the house while left alone. They did not get regualr exercise, so these 2 will need a new diet and exercise program.

We are happy to report they are in a foster home and they say: " Comet (6yrs-4months) and Cassidy (4yrs-7months) are such a delight! First night was rough since they are so huge compared to my current dogs, however they’ve already melted our hearts. Some lucky family is going to hit the jackpot when they adopt these sweet honey bears. So... Cassidy is very calm and gentle. She is the perfect golden who loves being near her people. A thyroid issue was recently diagnosed which is the cause of her obesity and I look forward to helping her shed those extra 50 lbs using medication, controlled diet and exercise. She loves carrying toys in her mouth and doesn’t let the weight stop her from enjoying outside playtime. She was immediately accepting of small dogs in the 25-30 lb range. Cassidy is NOT cat friendly, so NO CATS for this duo. She is bonded to her best friend Comet who is 2 years older and has always been in her life. Comet is also charming. They are the perfect set of Goldens, and will make a fabulous pair for a very lucky family!"

If the home visit is approved and the adoption contract signed, the adoption coordinator will contact to discuss dogs in our program.

GRRAND requires that the dog is returned if it doesn't work out or if circumstances change and the owner cannot keep the dog. Also, there is a follow-up team that will contact the adopter after the adoption to assist with any questions.

More about this rescue

Early in 1994, members of the Greater Louisville Golden Retriever Club began to see the need for an organization to rehabilitate and find homes for displaced and abused Golden Retrievers. A number of folks in this club began organizing an ad hoc rescue group. As the number of rescues increased over a period of months, this “wet behind the ears” group came up with a name and in 1996, incorporated the organization now known as Golden Retriever Rescue & Adoption of Needy Dogs (GRRAND). The rest, as they say, is history!
