My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Swayze is a 2.5 year old, 70ish lb female Golden Retriever looking for a home with no dogs or children as she has resource guarding issues.

Her family has made the very difficult decision to rehome Swayze and they say: "She needs a home with no small children & no other dogs as she resource guards. She is also used to someone who works from home and no one being gone more than a few hours. She also needs a fenced in yard, we have a 4ft fence. She will nip if there’s food/ toy she feels possessive over. She has been trained extensively and will stay on place in one spot, will walk on your left side and stop when you stop. Knows all commands. She will sit while you get her food and wait for the okay to be released. We love her so much, but have to choose our kids. If our kids were older and didn’t have another dog we 1000% wouldn’t be in this situation."

She is crate-trained and sleeps in it at night, and does have full run of the house when her people are away.

More about this rescue

Early in 1994, members of the Greater Louisville Golden Retriever Club began to see the need for an organization to rehabilitate and find homes for displaced and abused Golden Retrievers. A number of folks in this club began organizing an ad hoc rescue group. As the number of rescues increased over a period of months, this “wet behind the ears” group came up with a name and in 1996, incorporated the organization now known as Golden Retriever Rescue & Adoption of Needy Dogs (GRRAND). The rest, as they say, is history!
