My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adoption fee for Leaf is $150 Hi everyone! My name is Leaf and I have been through so much. I was found stuck in a trap in a field, luckily, I did not endure any permanent damage. It is unknown what my life was like before this. Once I was thankfully rescued, I tested positive for heartworm and had to go through treatment for that. After all of that, I finally made my trip to Wisconsin!
Due to everything that has happened to me in my life, I am very shy and timid at first. I don't do well with loud noises and like to go hide if it overwhelms me. Due to this, I need a home without small kiddos and a family who is extremely patient and has a low key lifestyle. In my heart and soul, I just want to have a family I know that loves me and will give me the patience to know love.
At just 5, I unfortunately don't have many teeth and need a diet that is mostly soft food. I have learned Wisconsin is cold! I love to stand and sniff at the door while it's open but I am not used to going out in the cold to go potty. I am also scared of some of the cars that pass and run away. My foster mom always comes out with me and shows me it's safe, I am so happy she does this for me. I have been working on these things called house manners, trying real hard but life is so different from what I was used to is all.
I am not the biggest fan of my crate but with prompting I will go in. Sometimes, I get scared of the other dogs in my foster home, especially when they bark, so my foster mom puts me in a separate room. However, when I am not in my crate, I follow the other dogs in the house to learn what a home really is. I would do well with another low key dog in the home to show me everything and to show me it is safe.
I have not been tested with cats but I think I would do okay with them, as I don't have a prey drive and would probably just run away from them! The 8 year old in my foster home is very dog savvy and knows how to respect my space so I like that. I have started to come to her for pets! I am not a fan of cuddling and belly rubs are amazing, but have learned that I love getting pets when I feel comfortable with the person.
At first, I was scared to get in the car and my foster mom needed to pick me up and put me in there. At 45 pounds, she was was able to pick me up pretty easily. Once I was in there, I didn't make a peep! I may need some more leash training as I like to be close to the person walking me as I get scared by the noises but I am sure I will learn quickly. I will do best with a high fenced in yard, you see I got spooked and was able to scale the fence at my foster home. I was so scared and confused but luckily I was found before the bad cold air came back through.
If you love my soulful eyes, calm demeanor and low key lifestyle, please apply at sandipaws.org.

A successful adoption depends on the selection of the right pet for your household and your understanding of your responsibility of adopting a rescued animal. Our adoption procedures have been designed to make sure all rescued Sandi Paws pets are placed in an appropriate, loving forever home, and to make sure all adopters find the right fit for their family. Prior to adoption, all dogs and cats will be given all age-appropriate vaccinations, including rabies, kennel cough, parvo and distemper, spaying/neutering, intestinal deworming, heartworm testing/treatment, microchipping, and monthly heartworm medication and flea prevention.

Note: We will adopt pets outside of Wisconsin if we can do necessary background and reference checks and the adopters agree to provide necessary follow up information. Also, the adopting family must agree to travel to pick up the pet and agree to transport them back to Wisconsin if they need to be returned at any time.
