My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*I'm located in Georgia but can be transported*

Name: Buckley

Breed: Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull Mix

Sex/Age/Weight: Male/estimated 4 years old/58lbs

Vetting: Up to date on vaccines, neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative and on preventatives.

House trained: Yes

Crate trained: Unfortunately Buckley does not do well in a crate, but he is trustworthy to be left alone unmonitored.

Dogs: Buckley does well with non-dominant dogs. He has been around females and was fine.

Cats: Unknown, but can be tested upon request.

Children: Buckley is great with people of all ages.

Energy level: Buckley is low-medium energy. He is very happy to lounge around the house and LOVES a couch or a bed. He also loves walks and I think he would be happy to do more walking than he currently is, but it's not necessary as he is happy playing with his humans in the house too.

History/Before FAR: Little is known of Buckley's history. Buckley was found as a stray in late 2022 and was taken to the county shelter at Macon-Bibb. Buckley had sustained fairly serious injuries to his back leg and hip prior to Bibb ACS finding him. Buckley was rescued by FAR in March of 2023.

Training Status/Commands: Buckley knows basic commands (sit, stay). He is very quick to learn and eager to please.

Things I like: Buckley loves walks, belly rubs, beds, treats of all kinds, and human companionship.

Things that make my humans happy: Buckley is very funny, playful, and is a snuggle bug. He has no qualms with looking you deep in the eyes when getting belly rubs and pets, and you can just feel his happiness. When he really wants to play, he hangs his mouth waaaaay open, dips his head, sways back and forth, and staring you right in the eyes blinking. He is just trying anything to tempt you into playing with him, which works every time as it is so darn cute!

Ideal family/home: Buckley loves people, and while he can be left alone he greatly prefers the company of humans. Buckley also loves other dogs and wants to play with them. He pairs best with more submissive dog companions. And of course, like most dogs, Buckley would love a large fenced yard.

Extras/Special Notes: Buckley walks with a "limp" due to his prior hip/leg injury not being treated when it occurred and healing incorrectly. Due to the incorrect healing of the leg when the injury occurred, his back leg is about 2 inches shorter than his other legs, creating what looks like a limp when he walks. Due to the failure of his hip to heal correctly, he also sits in an odd position. If he does a LOT of exercise, he can be a bit sore for a day. But for the most part, other than a funny walk and a strange "sitting" position, Buckley's old injuries have not hindered him as Buckley can run and jump like a deer.

If you are interested in giving Buckley a forever home, please visit the link below to fill out an application! http://fureverafterrescue.org/adoption-application.html It is best to submit an application through a computer. We have experienced some problems when applications have been submitted using a mobile device. *When you submit the application, you are not obligated to adopt however it does reserve for you the opportunity to adopt that particular animal. We review them on a first come first served basis. If your application is approved, we will contact you and allow you the opportunity to adopt. If you choose not to adopt, we will contact the next approved applicant. If you have any questions or difficulties, please contact us and we will be glad to help!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process starts with the potential adopter filling out an adoption application. In the application, you can specify a particular dog in which you are interested, or let us know what type of pet in which you are looking, so we can find the perfect animal to fit your family and your needs. Once the application is received, a board member will review the application, and make contact with the potential adopter within 48 hours. This initial contact may include further questions/more information, or may include scheduling a meet and greet for you to meet the animal in which you are interested! Once the application is approved or the meet and greet goes well, then the adoption can be finalized. To finalize the adoption, an adoption agreement must be completed, the adoption fee paid (we accept cash, paypal, or credit/debit card), and then the potential adopter can take their new family member home with them or schedule pick up of their furry family member! The adoption fee varies based on the dog or puppy you are interested in. Some of the adoption fees have been listed on the individual dog's description but if you do not see one then please reach out and we would be happy to talk to you about it! If you are interested in any of our animals, please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have!!

Go meet their pets

We hold adoption events some Saturdays at various locations around middle GA from 11 am-3 pm. Check our Facebook page for updates on Events! We are also able to arrange meet and greets for local adopters!

More about this rescue

Furever After Rescue, a 501(c)(3) organization, is a no-kill, foster-based rescue devoted to finding homes for animals needing a loving home. Most of our animals come from local, high-kill shelters with some occasionally coming from bad situations and owner surrender. Our animals are immediately placed in foster homes where they learn love and are taught how to live in a home environment. All of our animals are up-to-date on their age-appropriate vetting needs and are tested for personality traits as best as possible. We have many wonderful pets looking for forever homes!
