My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Rye! She is a 10-month-old Hound, Plott/Black Mouth Cur mix, with a gentle and reserved nature. She came to the shelter needing a little extra time to warm up to people, as she is naturally a bit cautious around new faces. Though she may take a little while to build trust, Rye has a lot of love to give once she feels comfortable in her surroundings. With patience and understanding, Rye will slowly open up, revealing her affectionate and loyal side. His shy demeanor doesn’t reflect his true potential as a loving companion, but rather her need for a calm environment where she can feel safe and secure. Rye’s ideal home would be with an experienced dog owner who can provide her the time and space he needs to build trust at her own pace.

More about this shelter

We serve the pets and people in Northern Illinois and Southeastern Wisconsin. Our mission is clear: To take responsibility for each and every orphaned, abandoned, abused or neglected dog and cat which reaches our doors; to take them in and shelter them; to provide the best medical and physical care possible for them; to nurture them back to health if need be; and finally to place them into warm, loving, adoptive homes where they can enjoy the lives they deserve.
