My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion.

A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.

Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.

Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.

Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list.

thanks

Date into Rescue:11/17/2024
Reason for being in rescue: Estate release, owner in hospice.
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? Our best guess is that Sugga is a Great Pyrenees / Standard Poodle mix. Sugga had mammary tumors removed on 01/09/2025. SShe is not hypoallergenic and does shed. She is a LARGE dog. If you have allergy concerns, Sugga is not your dog.
Weight:78 lbs
Height: 26 in
Spayed/Neutered: Unknown

Adoption Fee: $499

Fence needed? No

What kind of home would be perfect for me? Sugga is a calm and affectionate dog who would be a great addition to nearly any home - whether you're a single person, a couple, or a family. She thrives on love and attention and would happily bond with her new humans. While she gets along well with children of all ages, her size means you’ll need to be careful if you have young children (under 12) as she could accidentally knock them over when she gets a little playful.

Sugga will do best with a fenced-in yard where she can run and play during her occasional bursts of energy. She has her active moments, but she’s also a big fan of lounging around. After spending so much time in a barn, Sugga is ready to curl up in the comfort of a soft couch or blanket next to her person. She loves snuggling and napping as much as she loves a good play session.

Sugga has lived harmoniously with other dogs here but would be perfectly content as the only dog in the household. She loves her people and would enjoy being the center of attention. While Sugga hasn’t been introduced to cats, her temperament suggests she would likely get along with them, provided they’re cat friendly.

What is my personality like? Sugga is as sweet as her name suggests – she’s got a heart full of love and is always ready to share it with everyone she meets. She’s never met a stranger and is eager to make new friends. Sugga was surrendered to us when her owner had to enter hospice, and she spent her days on a farm living in a barn. Now, this wonderful girl is looking for a cozy house with a couch to call her own (our apologies to Dr. Seuss for that last part!).

Though Sugga hasn’t had formal leash training, she walks well on a leash and is a gentle companion. She may pull a bit at times – she's a strong girl, after all – but she's easy to handle. She doesn’t know basic commands yet, but at 11 years old, that old adage, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” most likely applies to her. That said, Sugga is very food-motivated and would love a few treats to encourage her to learn fun little things like "sit" or "give paw."

This delightful lady doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who will shower you with affection, Sugga might just be the dog for you. Come meet her today, and let her fill your home with love, joy, and plenty of snuggles.

How do I act when I first meet new people? Sugga is a total sweetheart, with a gentle and affectionate nature. She is always happy to meet people and has never met a stranger. Sugga is a calm, gentle and loving lady who’s ready to go home with you today.

Other tips and tidbits: Sugga was born on or about 11/17/2013.

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.

To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.

Thank you for considering CPR.
