Hazel came into rescue with a couple of other dogs. The lady who brought them to us said they were being sold in the parking lot of a Walmart. She offered the people some money and got the dogs. They were all in terrible shape and were matted, very underweight and anemic. The lady said she couldn't leave them there like that but she also couldn't keep them long term either. She got them clipped up (Hazel's coat is still growing out and she is still slowly putting on weight-she was literally skin over bone when she came to us)and asked us if we could find them a loving home. Of course, we said we would because they all deserved a home where they are get spoiled rotten. The lady did not know their ages so we asked the vet to guesstimate. They thought that Hazel was about six years old and she looks to be a shih tzu or shih tzu mix. She is absolutely adorable and has really perked up since being with us and getting weight on. She initially was pretty lethargic and weak but she's always raring to go now! She loves to be with her people and her canine friends. She snuggles and waits patiently to go into her crate at night and to be put out in the morning. She is quite well behaved. Hazel is crate trained but we make no guarantees about housebroken. She has gotten along well with our other small dogs and does well with older kids. She should be fine with cats but we don't have any to test her with. She loves her food but i guess if you were practically starved to death, you would love it too! She enjoys living in comfort and being spoiled. Hazel saw the vet on 1/6/25 and was spayed and brought current on her yearly care. She weighed 8.6 pounds as of 1/6/25. She was heartworm negative but was fecal positive for hookworms. She was dewormed with Drontal and was started on Simparica Trio for heartworm prevention and flea control. Hazel was not found to have any medical issues in her exam. She is a sweet girl who will make a wonderful, snuggly companion!
If interested in giving Hazel her forever home, please submit your interest and your adoption application via email or text ONLY to 352-215-3260 (phone calls will not be answered or returned from this number). Hazel's adoption fee will be $400 to help cover the cost of her vetting and daily care while with us. We will only consider applicants who complete the adoption application and will determine whether the applicant would be a good fit for Hazel based on the info provided in the application. If we feel that you will be a good match for her, we will set up a meet and greet appointment with you.

More about this rescue
We are a small rescue started in September 2004. To date, we have adopted out over 1,000 dogs and cats who may not have had a second chance. We rescue the majority of our pets from kill shelters and have them thoroughly vetted prior to going to their new homes. All of our pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm checked(dogs) and dewormed. We also microchip our dogs so that they can always find their way home. Big and small, we work to rehome them all. We are always in need of donations so if you can help us to help our pets, please contact us! The more people who get involved, the more pets that we can save! You can also see our pets and/or fill out our adoption application on www.petfinder.com. We look forward to hearing from you and making that "forever match"!
