Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Sosa is available through our `Adopt From a Foster Home` program. Please email adopt@calgaryhumane.ca if you are interested in scheduling a meeting. Please do not make an appointment through our online booking calendar, as Sosa is not available to meet on site.
Age: 7 months Weight: 24.7 kg
A little bit about Sosa: - potential for home with children, all interactions must be supervised - potential for dog in home pending successful introductions - no history with cats; prey drive noted on walks towards small animals
Introducing Sosa, a gorgeous standard poodle who is on the hunt for his forever home! Sosa, through no fault of his own, was surrendered to our care in December and had a difficult time settling in shelter. Understandably, he was very stressed, which is why he is now waiting for his family in a foster home! His foster parent says that he is quite tall for his age and really strong. Sosa loves to go on walks so he can sniff everything he can find, and he`s learning to walk with a loose leash with the help of some gentle positive reinforcement techniques! He loves playing wrestling games with his foster brother Bentley, who is also a black standard poodle, and might do really well with a doggie friend going forward! He also lives with a cat, who he is very curious about and has bumped noses with a few times. With that being said, Sosa does display prey drive towards small animals outside, so slow introductions to any possible cat friends is a must. Sosa may have some separation stress and will need patience while he works through this. His favourite toys are Kongs; he likes to toss them for himself, chew on them or even bring them to you to throw. When it`s time to read or watch TV, Sosa is happy to relax and snuggle in with you to keep you warm. He`s described as being a very gentle, happy-go-lucky guy, but he can be a little nervous around new people and other dogs at first. Despite this, he warms up quickly and we`re sure he`ll be more confident as he grows! His foster mom says he`s very smart, learns quickly, and that he`s going to be the best dog ever if somebody’s willing to work with him and be patient while he continues learning.

From our earliest beginning, Calgary Humane Society was more than a shelter. As Calgary’s first-established animal welfare organization, connecting the lives of animals and people while providing essential animal services to the community remains our central priority.
Today, Calgary Humane Society (CHS) shelters almost 5,000 homeless animals each year. In 1922 we set out to help as many animals as we can and we will continue to do so by fostering the values of respect, compassion, commitment, teamwork, integrity and innovation.
Our mission is to help as many animals as we can.
Our vision is using innovative strategies to lead, inspire, and educate in the humane treatment of companion animals, fostering an enlightened community that consistently demonstrates respect and compassion for all animals.
Our dream is a community where animals are valued, humanely treated, and live enriched lives.
