My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Pepper! A gorgeous, petite aussie doodle lady at 31lbs. She is about 2 years old, and came from a situation where she was very neglected. Zero grooming and probably little to no positive socialization. Therefore **please read** what her needs are before applying!

Pepper will be one of those pups that will take months to truly come out of her shell. For example, it has taken 3 weeks for her to want to lay and relax in the same vicinity as her foster family, but has little interest in being touched or even looked at. Her foster mom describes her as a lovable weirdo! She will need a more relaxed home with at least 1 other confident dog in the home. She feeds off the confident, 7yr old GSP in her foster home, but also gets along with the others as well as cats. She has done great with kennel training and leash training. Pepper is easily startled, and will flee as a response. We'd recommend a fenced backyard for her forever home as an extra safety measure. Working with dogs from these situations can be a process, but SO rewarding.

If interested in meeting Pepper and learning more about her progress over the last month (which has been so great to see), please submit an application at www.foreverhomedogs.org. Meets will be setup with approved applicants only after January 20th.All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots.

Senior dogs, at our discretion, are adopted out at $150 per dog because we know they will have less time with your family and may eventually have more needs as they get older. But we feel these dogs deserve to live out the rest of their lives as part of a loving family.

More about this rescue

Forever Home Dog Rescue is dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned animals primarily from high-kill shelters.

In working with committed volunteers, temporary care homes and local veterinarians, we are able to rescue dogs, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes. All our rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped and have all necessary veterinary care.

We were formed in January 2014 and are a non-profit organization in central Iowa. We are pending our official 501c3 status. We receive no government funding and rely completely on donations.
