Arktika, or Tika, was found in rural animal control along with her two puppies. That's all we know about her past, however, there is a plenty we can tell about her present:
She is the most loving, friendly, sweet, little lady we have ever met! With her giant ears she looks like a desert fox, but she is a dog through and through: she wants to be near you, sleep with you and give you gentle kisses. With this being said, she may be small, but she is a very real dog. She loves her leash walks, is lively, curious and very interested in wildlife . She needs somebody who is home a lot, and can take her places once she is done with her heart worm treatment, because yes, she is heart worm positive.
Arktika was rated as Class/Stage 1- 2, which means some obvious enlargement in her heart and/or pulmonary vessels, and some possible lung inflammation.
At this time, even though she doesn't have any symptoms whatsoever, it is best to keep her activity to a minimum, no long walks or runs, limited play time until she is fully treated. The heart worm treatment will be covered by the rescue. However, before applying for her, please do your research to understand that this treatment takes both a long time and adjustments to the dog's lifestyle.
Arktika is house trained and doesn't chew on anything. She prefers to sleep in our bed. She is also not crazy about dry dog food and prefers food humans eat, such as yogurt, cottage cheese or broth, to be mixed into it. She wouldn't say no to vegetables and chicken.
She gets along great with our two larger dogs, but tries to boss them around (well, she has some Chihuahua in her after all), and demands playtime. Our two Blue Heelers, who aren't particularly friendly in general, have a lot of respect for her. She wasn't properly cat tested, but this can be arranged, if required.
Have we mentioned she is very cute? See for yourself: https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjBYL4h
Overall, she is one heck of a dog! If she looks like she can be one of yours, please complete the adoption application.
