Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Please note that I am still in foster! I cannot be met until the end of February
From Foster mom:
Meet Slim Jim
This one has a weird high paw wiggle walk when you call to come. There is no better way to describe it.
He does a good at sit. Down is a hit or miss but getting better. Does fairly well with leave it when a treat is in your hand, if it hits the ground it is fair game.
Leash walking is going well for a young one and with it being so cold.
He doesn't like the cold very well, and does just fine to have a coat put on. The colder he is the less he wants to be out side.
The VC isn't scary. off, on or moving.
Brushing went very well. Even had a little wiggle in the tail. Nail trim not bad but not good. I would say have a second person to help.
We feed in the kennel for positive association. We use wait to put the food dish down and OK to release so he can eat. That way he isn't jumping on the dish to eat.
Ah-Ah is our no
Yes in place of a clicker.
He loves to cuddle but watch that mouth he also likes to nibble. Not hard but sharp teeth.
I haven't been able to identify a signal for when he needs to go out, but he will pee and poo when you put him out. He will use the puppy pad and my small carpets to pee. I think he is trying to avoid going out.

More about this shelter
BENCHS was established in 1969 in Mankato, MN.
We serve city limits stray/unclaimed cats/dogs and personal owner surrenders.
We also work with Blue Earth county and other areas in MInnesota, including some Native American reservations when we are able to.
We have also developed relationships with several groups in Texas, Oklahoma, Florida and North Carolina to help the areas reduce their strays.
BENCHS often help other areas that have experienced natural disasters by taking in some of the animals located in those areas.
We have a heartworm positive dog program which enables us to help dogs who elsewhere would be put down.
