We met Rudder while visiting one of our partner shelters, Hearts United in rural Nebraska, and it was love at first sight. He was a local stray, about 1 year old.
Rudder is a dream dog in every sense of the word - just ask anyone who is lucky enough to meet him. He's a delightful, happy, friendly boy who believes everyone is his best friend. The folks at HUA saw what a great tempered dog he was, so he participated in public events, children's programs, and playgroups with the other dogs.
He landed himself a foster home with a nice family with young children, ages 7 months and 3 years old. He is very good with them and loves them! He will sniff/lick the baby and is in love with the 3 year old. Loves to cuddle up to her and play with her. She got a little “too lovey” with him and was pulling on his neck and he had no reaction towards her. He is such a tolerant boy!
Rudder still has some puppy behaviors that he's working on breaking, and he's doing a good job learning! He likes to steal shoes and chew on things, so he does need to be watched closely and reminded what a toy is and isn't. However, he has not had a potty accident in the home!
His fosters leave him to free roam in a laundry room when they can't watch him. He likes his safe area and sometimes they will find him cozy in the bed in there even when they are home. He likes to take his naps there.
We asked them to write a bio for Rudder and here is what his foster mom has to say: "Rudder is the biggest-hearted pup! He’s very playful with dogs and other people (loves everyone) but is also ready to cuddle up on the couch with you and wants to be touching you at all times. If you’re not sitting, he’ll let you know he’s ready for some love by leaning up against you and giving you the biggest sweetest puppy dog eyes! Rudder is not an alpha dog so you can be at ease when meeting others. He immediately fell in love with our 3 year old and loves to play and cuddle with her, even if she wants to love him too hard (he’ll take it). He’s still a puppy in some ways and is learning all his commands, so with a little training, Rudder will be the perfect family dog."
Rudder’s adoption fee is $250. This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
