My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When you think of the perfect dog, you’re probably thinking of Alexander. This goofy, fun-loving dude is always ready for an adventure. Alexander is a one year old plott hound mix. He is spends his time trying to make everyone smile. Alexander has been at HSSM since January 15th, and has been trying to razzle dazzle his way into a fur-ever home since then. He loves to bound around the yard, but always comes back to encourage his people to play with him. He is very treat motivated and knows `Sit`, however he is always wiling to learn more. He does also enjoy a good cuddle, and would simply be an amazing family or companion dog.

HSSM is home to over 300 pets on any given day, most of which are looking for new forever homes! Your new best friend could be waiting at HSSM right now. Our beautiful, 41,000 square foot facility is currently open to the public. HSSM is open for adoptions Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary to adopt, however, adoptions are first-come, first served. You must come to HSSM to complete your adoption and make sure you bring a photo ID, as it is required to complete adoption paperwork.
Our adoptable animals page is self-updating and displays ALL of HSSM’s adorable adoptable pets from “pocket pets” to birds and of course the hundreds of dogs and cats currently calling HSSM home! See one you like? Make sure you note your favorite’s name and animal ID number so that HSSM staff and volunteers can easily find him/her when you come in!
Adoptions are cut off every day about 30 minutes prior to closing and possibly earlier if volume is high. Weekends are busy and you may have to wait more than an hour (especially in the afternoons) so please be prepared.
