Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home. Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion.
A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known.
Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.
Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email. We'll add you to our mailing list.
thanks

Date into Rescue: 12/10/2024
Reason for being in rescue: Surrendered by owners
Foster location: Foster Home in Raleigh, NC
Special Needs? Poppy is up to date on vaccines for her age. Due to her age and size she is not currently spayed. She will be adopted on a spay/neuter addendum requiring you to spay her within 6 months and provide proof of spay.
Weight: 4 lbs and growing - we estimate Poppy will be between 12-15 lbs when full grown
Height: 6 in
Spayed/Neutered: No
Adoption Fee: $399
Fence needed? No
What kind of home would be best for me? Poppy is a young, active, very small dogs. Her breed is known for very delicate legs and feet. We are looking for a very specific home for Poppy. First, she must have another small dog in the home that is willing to let her play and sleep snuggled with her. Second, no children under 10. Poppy is simply too delicate. Third, you must be home more than you are away. It can be work from home, home school, active retirees, etc. But no more than 2-3 hours at a time. And finally, you must be willing to let Poppy cuddle on the furniture and, when she is bigger and it is safe, sleep in the bed. These all are non-negotiable. Poppy is great with dogs of all sizes (she lives with dogs ranging from 3 lbs to 70 lbs) and cats.
What is my personality like? Can you say ears!! Sweet Poppy is 50 pounds of personality packed into 4 pounds of chocolate smooth coat perfection. She loves to play, loves to snuggle, and loves to eat. Poppy is all puppy. She plays hard and then crashes hard. And when she crashes, she wants another body to snuggle with and wrap her paws around. If you're human, she'll be snuggled against your neck. If you're canine, she quite literally wraps her arms around another dog to sleep.
Poppy is a puppy and is still learning and growing. She absolutely hates crates and will sing the song of her people if you crate her. Her foster home simply doesn't put her in one. Poppy doesn't know anything about walking on a leash yet but is a quick learner. She LOVES to run outside in the fenced yard in her foster home. Poppy will go up stairs that are carpeted but will not come downstairs and is not allowed on wooden stairs (she could fall). Poppy likes to play chase. When you want to pick her up she runs to her bed and lays down to be picked up. We're happy to chase - she's too cute to ignore.
Poppy and her brother Hamilton are the very best of friends. They are not bonded, but are definitely close. Poppy LOVES other dogs and wants to play with them. She is fine with big dogs and will play if they engage them, but does not seek out play time with large dogs like she will with small dogs.
Poppy's foster family is admittedly biased, but they think she's pretty perfect!
How do I act when I first meet new people? Poppy LOVES people. She is the snuggliest girl you will ever meet and thinks any arms are hers to snuggle into.
Other tips and tidbits: We were told that Poppy was 12 weeks old when she arrived in rescue. Her size and teeth support this. We celebrate her birthday 09/17/2024.
House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.
To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.
Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.
Thank you for considering CPR.
