Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
A spirited one-year-old Great Dane/Labrador Retriever mix from Walnut Creek, CA, whose zest for life is as big as his heart—and his paws! This sleek black bundle of energy weighs in at 73 pounds and is the ultimate adventure buddy for anyone who loves fetch, long walks, or afternoons at the dog park. Jacob is a playful, intelligent, and loving young pup who’s ready to find a home where he can stretch his legs, play with his favorite squeaky ball, and keep learning all the cool things he’s picking up in training.
Jacob’s enthusiasm for life is contagious, but as a large, young dog, he’s still learning the ropes. With guidance and a little patience, this clever boy has already made huge strides. He’s mastered commands like “sit,” “heel,” “wait,” and “easy” in record time, and he’s currently attending a 5-week board-and-train program to become his best self. Jacob absolutely loves other dogs and is learning how to make new friends while building his confidence. Strangers? He can be a little nervous and reactive, especially in new environments or tight spaces, but with proper introductions and a calm, steady guide, Jacob settles down and shows his sweet, playful side. He’s working hard on staying focused and calm in exciting or overwhelming situations, and his progress has been amazing thanks to dedicated training.
While Jacob’s reactivity is a work in progress, it’s important to note that he thrives when given clear guidance and patience. He would do best with a confident caregiver who can continue to help him navigate his emotions and learn to trust new people and places. With this support, Jacob’s potential to be an incredible companion is limitless!
Jacob would thrive in a home with a fenced yard where he can run and play to his heart’s content. His ideal family will have experience with big dogs and a commitment to continuing his training and socialization. While he loves people, his size and playful enthusiasm make him better suited to a home with adults or teens rather than small children. He’s still figuring out how to play gently and may mouth when he’s excited, but with a little redirection to his trusty squeaky ball, he’s good to go!
When he’s not busy chasing after his tail (a nervous habit he’s working on) or practicing his commands, Jacob is a big fan of cuddling. After a full day of fun, he loves nothing more than curling up with his favorite humans, resting his head on their lap, and soaking up the love.
Could your family be the one to help Jacob channel his playful energy and build his confidence? If you’re ready to meet this big-hearted boy and give him the space and care he needs, contact adopt@joyfulpets.com. Jacob’s waiting to meet his match—could it be you?
