My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mooncake is a beautiful, plush, and happy chow chow with an estimated birthdate of 01/17/2023. She came to Murci's Mission from our partners at SCRAPS.

Before applying for Mooncake, please make sure that you understand the temperament of a chow chow. To someone seeking a regular family pet, Mooni might seem problematic, but to someone seeking a chow chow, she will be exactly as expected. She is highly standoffish to new people and will never be accepting of physical handling by strangers. When meeting her, it will be expected that potential adopters know to ignore her and let her take the greeting at her own pace. Anyone who does not honor this and forces themselves upon her with physical touch she is not ready for or interested in will be at risk of being bitten which would be entirely unfair and avoidable since the information and expectations are clearly presented here.

Mooni finds men to be more intimidating than women, so any future men in her life will have to be patient, but she will slowly and surely make friends. She is not suitable in a home with kids below 10. She has been outstanding with other dogs and has accepted corrections from large and small dogs, however, she rarely needs one. She good on leash, responsive to spray bottle corrections, and accepts being crated although she can pant heavily and bark every so often when she feels some containment stress. She is great for car rides, hasn't peed inside, and is an expert spooning partner once she trusts her person.

Mooncake's ideal family will be one who had patience and understanding of aloof dogs who have no use for unknown people. She would love to be included in outings with the family but will require a strong advocate who will be able to tell passerbys that they cannot pet her even though she's terribly cute. She would also be ok with staying home for the most part. She has been respectful in the house and is low/mid energy.

Mooni comes spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and dewormed. Her adoption fee is $200 and includes her leash, collar, ID tag, muzzle for scary vet and groomer visits, food sample, and medical records. To be considered to adopt, please begin by visiting www.murcismission.org and sending in an application.

Thank you for checking out our girl.

More about this rescue

From the day we could talk we told our pets more than we ever told our parents. We took the long route to see the kitty in the window down the street. We stopped even when we were late to pet the dog. We grew up and we saw what the world does to those who can't defend themselves. We are here to change that.

Ethical rescue, including fully vetting every animal and carefully placing them all into homes matched to their physical and mental needs is what we do.

Respecting all life, both animal and human, while retaining an underlying goal of keeping animals in their homes. and fostering a sense of community between local shelters and rescues is how we do it.
