My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Greta:

Hello, I’m Greta!

I am a playful and VERY inquisitive 8 year old German Shepherd . I am just over 64 pounds (for now) as my foster mom is taking good care of me to get me back on track. I am expected to be about a healthy 75lbs.

I was on the euthanasia list in Texas, because I was there “too long” 45 days to be exact , but got a second chance at life thanks to Safe Haven and my foster family!
When I arrived to my foster home, I first met my furry foster sister Maya! She’s the best and I am learning a lot from her.

I still don’t know my name but I am getting better at it! I know basic commands such as sit and stay. I am working with my Hooman foster siblings on “shake”, “stay” “lay down”. The best part is all the treats I get

I am still learning to go down the stairs but I am making progress every day!
I am completely housebroken and crate trained. Most nights I snuggle with my furry foster sister on “my” designated couch space but.. I also find comfort in my crate and will sleep soundly in there if needed.

I love my foster family’s and get along and play respectfully with them. Fetch is my favorite! I also do great on a leash and love to take walks. I enjoy snuggle time with my foster mom and love playing With my foster siblings.

While I have learned to respect my foster family’s resident cats, I would probably do best in a home without them. I would, however, thrive in a home with another playful pup!

I have not met any young kids, so I’m not sure how I would do with them. However I met many of my foster siblings friends and do great!!

If you are ready for a loyal and playful companion, I just may be your perfect match!

Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping.

We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process.

Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details.

Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed.

Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.

More about this rescue

We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.

The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.

Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.

While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.

We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
