Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This 4-month-old Shepherd mix is bursting with energy, curiosity, and love! Currently weighing 27 pounds, Nesta is the ultimate explorer who will love to play tug of war with you.
Nesta has adjusted to her new foster home well, after investigating every inch of course. Once she's comfortable, she's happy to spend her days chasing her foster siblings, and learning good puppy manners. Crate training has been a breeze and she sleeps through the night quietly. Potty training is a work in progress, but she’s made impressive strides in just ten days, reliably using potty pads near the door. As the weather warms up, her foster family is confident she’ll transition to outdoor potty breaks with ease.
Sometimes, it seems her energy knows no limits—at both play time and meal time! She’s still learning to slow down during meals with the help of a slow feeder. While she doesn’t require a fenced yard to burn off her energy, her future family will need to keep her safely leashed outside and prepare for lots of fun and games.
Nesta is still learning to fully trust people, so she has discerning tastes when it comes to making new friends. Once she decides you’re okay, she’ll be your most loyal companion! While she hasn’t met cats or children yet, she could thrive in a home with confident cats or older kids, provided there’s guidance and supervision. A tolerant resident dog will be helpful for Nesta's future home to help her learn puppy boundaries and giving her the playmate she craves.
If you’re looking for a smart, playful, and resilient puppy, Nesta is ready to meet you!

The adoption fee is $550. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.
Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.
Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.
We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.
We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
