My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Teddy – Your Loving, Lively Companion!

Teddy is an adorable 11-year-old Yorkshire Terrier/Maltese mix weighing 12 pounds. Born on February 11, 2013, Teddy has spent his life bringing joy to those around him. Now, he’s ready to find his perfect forever home where he can feel safe, loved, and part of the family!

A Little About Teddy
Teddy is a neutered gentleman who is up to date with his vetting and has been lovingly cared for. While he can be hesitant when meeting new people, once Teddy warms up, he’s an affectionate, social, and lively companion who thrives on love and attention.

What Makes Teddy Special

  • Loves His People: Teddy thrives on being around his loved ones and enjoys being included in family activities. He loves being held, soaking up belly rubs, and spending quality time with his humans.
  • Dinner time Leader: Teddy is skilled at gathering everyone together, especially in the kitchen and family movies. There is no need to have a dinner bell. Teddy is the best way to know dinner is ready as he is the first to let you know it’s dinner time and gets you to follow him to the kitchen.
  • Has been around Kids: Teddy has lived with children since they were toddlers, making him a great fit for families with little ones.
  • Other Dogs and animals: In his previous home, he got along well with other dogs and has made friends with pups of all sizes, including a Border Collie and a poodle mix
  • Vocal: Teddy can be vocal especially when he wants attention or feels something needs addressing. Due to this, he may not be the best match for apartments or condos dwellers where noise might be an issue. A home with more space and understanding neighbors would be ideal.
  • Sensitive to His Environment: Teddy has cataracts and limited vision, so a minimal, well-organized space is ideal for him. Special care is needed to ensure his environment is safe and free from hazards, allowing him to move around comfortably without risk of injury.
  • Dislikes Being Alone: Teddy does not enjoy being left alone and prefers a home where he can be surrounded by his family most of the time.

Daily Life with Teddy

  • Energy and Involvement: Teddy enjoys going in the backyard, being active and part of the family. Whether it’s a walk, cuddle time, or just following you around, he’s happiest when he’s included in daily life. On walks, he may bark or growl at dogs on the same side of the street but is otherwise unbothered by people or vehicles.
  • Diet: Teddy thrives on a diet of cooked rice and chicken, along with Blue Buffalo Wilderness Small Breed kibble. He also enjoys rice, carrots, and peas, which help keep his tummy happy.
  • Grooming and Handling: Teddy is cooperative with grooming, baths, and vet visits. While he dislikes any pats on his backside and hips, he loves being pampered with belly rubs and cuddles. He also handles daily eye drops and other care with ease.

Medical Notes
Teddy had successful CCL surgery on his back left leg in January 2023 and takes gabapentin daily for leg soreness and anxiety. Chronic pain management and monitoring his pain points is essential for Teddy. His cataracts affect his vision, so he relies on his family to provide a secure and predictable environment.

Ideal Home for Teddy

Teddy would thrive in an active but calm and loving home where his family can include him in their daily activities and provide the special care he needs. Teddy’s ideal home would also include someone who can spend lots of time with him, ensuring he feels secure and loved.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our process begins with an online pre adoption questionnaire followed by a telephone interview
Once both have been completed we consider suitability and if we feel the adoption candidate is a potential match we arrange a meet and greet with the dog you are interested in
From there we schedule a home visit and check personal and veterinary references.

Go meet their pets

All our dogs are in foster homes so meet and greets are by appointment only

Foster Homes
Sadly, each new day brings a flood of emails and telephone pleas to help yet another abandoned dear dog. We try and help these displaced dogs through our rescue efforts and networking. We are always in search of new foster homes where a dog can be cared for and loved until a permanent home is found. Speaking of Dogs Rescue covers food, medical attention and all the supplies required for the dogs in foster care. Foster parents need be responsible and patient people who will provide a safe environment for our dogs. A foster contract must be signed. This is a serious responsibility; however the experience is very rewarding. If you can open your heart and home to a foster dog please contact us. We have a comprehensive Foster Manual available for people who are considering becoming a foster parent.
