Meet Frankie – The Fun-Loving Shepherd Husky Mix
Frankie is a 10-month-old Shepherd Husky mix with a heart as big as his playful personality! This sweet boy looks like a little coyote with his lean build and soulful puppy eyes that will melt your heart. Frankie’s journey began in the Fresno area, where he was surrendered after his homeless owner could no longer care for him. Despite his rough start, Frankie is thriving in foster care and ready to find a forever home that matches his zest for life.
Why Frankie Will Steal Your Heart
Playful and Happy: Frankie is full of puppy energy and always ready to play. Whether it’s with dogs, kids, or toys, he’s the life of the party. Adventurous Spirit: He’d be a fantastic jogging or hiking buddy for an active family that loves the outdoors.
Friendly and Social: Frankie loves everyone he meets, including other dogs and children. He’s also tested OK with cats, but any feline friends would need to be very tolerant of his playful nature.
Compact Yet Mighty: At 48 pounds, he’s lean and lanky but may gain another 5–10 pounds as he fills out.
What Frankie Needs in a Forever Home
Commitment to Training: Frankie is eager to learn and would thrive with a family dedicated to teaching him basic manners and structure. He’s still learning personal space and could use guidance to channel his enthusiasm.
Active Lifestyle:
An ideal home would keep Frankie busy with regular exercise, whether it’s daily runs, long hikes, or trips to the dog park.
Love and Patience:
Frankie has so much love to give, but he’s still a puppy at heart. He needs a family ready to embrace his goofy, energetic side while helping him grow into a well-mannered adult.
Space to Roam:
A home with a yard where Frankie can stretch his legs and explore would be perfect for him.
Progress in Foster Care:
House and Crate Training: Frankie is making great progress with both and is eager to please his humans.
Healthy and Thriving:
While he’s slightly underweight now, with the right care and nutrition, he’ll be at his ideal weight in no time.
Frankie is a sweet, happy, and loving pup who just needs a little direction to reach his full potential. If you’re looking for an active, affectionate adventure buddy with a heart of gold, Frankie could be your perfect match! Could you be the one to give him the forever family he deserves?

We have foster families throughout the Bay Area, spanning from Sacramento to Gilroy. All of our dogs are cared for in foster homes, as we do not yet have a physical facility—but we dream of one day saving animals without boundaries.
To ensure thoughtful and responsible adoptions, we do not host large adoption events. Instead, we prefer to showcase pets in their foster homes, where they feel most comfortable. After you apply, the foster family will reach out to discuss next steps, answer any questions, and arrange a meet-and-greet.
If your application is not chosen for a specific dog, we keep it on file for 90 days. During this time, you can email us to request your application be forwarded to other foster parents for dogs you may be interested in.

More about this rescue
Underdog Animal Rescue, our name pretty much sums us up. We are a registered 501c3 non-profit, volunteer operated nonprofit group dedicated to saving homeless and abandoned dogs from high kill and overcrowded shelters all over the state of California since 2014. We are an all-breed, size and age rescue, meaning we save many of the hardest to place, overbred such as pit bulls and chihuahuas. Our foster-based group lives and operates anywhere from Sacramento to Monterey. We literally give them another chance at life. We have saved over 3000 dogs since starting and we only plan to continue to grow.
When we rescue an animal, we place them in a foster home where they can decompress, learn to be a pet, socialized, spay/neutered, vaccinated, and treated for any medical or behavioral conditions which would otherwise limit their chances of adoption. We then actively network our dogs to find them the perfect forever loving home. Rescue is undoubtedly hard and trying work, but it is entirely worth it to see the life of a dog saved. As a rescue, we believe it is our duty to save the dogs that really need our help; the dogs that need a little TLC, a little medical care, or just someone to believe in them again. Therefore, we save the dogs that are on their last days at the shelter or haven't even been given a chance to be adopted by the public. As much as we love those sweet puppy eyes, we think more of saving their mommy’s and daddy’s that have been shoved to the back of the shelter awaiting their fate.
Thank you for seeing what we do and loving us for it. It’s only because of our outstanding community, foster families, and volunteers that we can continue our efforts, we are 100% donation funded and every penny counts toward a dog in need. Please consider getting involved- foster, adopt, volunteer, share, donate!
As a foster based rescue, Underdog places dogs in temporary foster homes where they can decompress and get the love and affection that they need. Dogs are also vaccinated, spayed/neutered and receive any other medical treatment needed before finding their forever home.
