Meet Susie, the Sweet and Spirited German Shepherd Mix Looking for Her Forever Home!
Susie is a beautiful 8-month-old German Shepherd mix weighing about 45 pounds, with a heart as big as her puppy energy. This little survivor’s story is one of resilience. Found as a stray and brought to an overcrowded shelter, Susie waited, hoping someone would come for her. Sadly, no one did. The shelter was beyond capacity, and Susie’s future was uncertain—until she was rescued and given the chance to start fresh.
Now, Susie is thriving in her foster home and learning what it means to be a beloved family member.
Why You’ll Fall in Love with Susie:
A Smart Pup in Training: Susie is doing wonderfully with her house and crate training and is eager to keep learning! She’d thrive in a home committed to formal training, where she can channel her intelligence and energy.
Dog, Cat, and Kid Friendly: Susie is a social butterfly who loves everyone she meets—whether they’re furry friends or kids ready to play.
Affectionate and Adaptable: Susie is still very much a puppy, full of curiosity and love. She’d make an excellent second dog, benefiting from a confident canine companion to guide her. With her gentle nature, she could also be trained as a therapy dog or fit right into a family dynamic.
Active and Playful: Susie would love a home that provides plenty of exercise and opportunities to explore, whether that’s long walks, hikes, or backyard adventures. She’s also more than happy to snuggle up once the fun is over.
What Susie Needs:
Susie is looking for a family who will provide her with structure, love, and training to help her grow into the incredible dog she’s destined to be. She’s still a puppy and will need guidance and patience as she learns, but her sweet and eager-to-please personality makes her a joy to work with.
Why Susie Deserves This Chance:
Abandoned and left to fend for herself at such a young age, Susie’s life could have turned out so differently. Now, she’s ready to leave her past behind and start a new chapter with a family who will cherish her for the amazing dog she is.

We have foster families throughout the Bay Area, spanning from Sacramento to Gilroy. All of our dogs are cared for in foster homes, as we do not yet have a physical facility—but we dream of one day saving animals without boundaries.
To ensure thoughtful and responsible adoptions, we do not host large adoption events. Instead, we prefer to showcase pets in their foster homes, where they feel most comfortable. After you apply, the foster family will reach out to discuss next steps, answer any questions, and arrange a meet-and-greet.
If your application is not chosen for a specific dog, we keep it on file for 90 days. During this time, you can email us to request your application be forwarded to other foster parents for dogs you may be interested in.

More about this rescue
Underdog Animal Rescue, our name pretty much sums us up. We are a registered 501c3 non-profit, volunteer operated nonprofit group dedicated to saving homeless and abandoned dogs from high kill and overcrowded shelters all over the state of California since 2014. We are an all-breed, size and age rescue, meaning we save many of the hardest to place, overbred such as pit bulls and chihuahuas. Our foster-based group lives and operates anywhere from Sacramento to Monterey. We literally give them another chance at life. We have saved over 3000 dogs since starting and we only plan to continue to grow.
When we rescue an animal, we place them in a foster home where they can decompress, learn to be a pet, socialized, spay/neutered, vaccinated, and treated for any medical or behavioral conditions which would otherwise limit their chances of adoption. We then actively network our dogs to find them the perfect forever loving home. Rescue is undoubtedly hard and trying work, but it is entirely worth it to see the life of a dog saved. As a rescue, we believe it is our duty to save the dogs that really need our help; the dogs that need a little TLC, a little medical care, or just someone to believe in them again. Therefore, we save the dogs that are on their last days at the shelter or haven't even been given a chance to be adopted by the public. As much as we love those sweet puppy eyes, we think more of saving their mommy’s and daddy’s that have been shoved to the back of the shelter awaiting their fate.
Thank you for seeing what we do and loving us for it. It’s only because of our outstanding community, foster families, and volunteers that we can continue our efforts, we are 100% donation funded and every penny counts toward a dog in need. Please consider getting involved- foster, adopt, volunteer, share, donate!
As a foster based rescue, Underdog places dogs in temporary foster homes where they can decompress and get the love and affection that they need. Dogs are also vaccinated, spayed/neutered and receive any other medical treatment needed before finding their forever home.
