My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Bo: The Affectionate and Energetic Shepherd

Bo is a vibrant, cheerful, and loving young Shepherd who is ready to explore the world with you! Born around March 2024, he’s full of curiosity and enthusiasm, always keen to learn and discover new things. His high energy and inquisitive nature make him a joy to be around, and he thrives on mental and physical stimulation.

Bo has a unique fondness for persimmons, making his morning routine quite the spectacle—he searches for fallen fruit and even reaches for low-hanging branches! While his love for this uncommon treat is endearing, it’s best to limit his intake to one persimmon to avoid overindulgence.

This playful boy loves a good game of tug-of-war, which is his favorite way to burn off energy and bond with his people. He’s also a fan of chewing on bones, and hiding them around the house or yard provides him with extra cognitive stimulation. Bo enjoys long walks on trails, hills, and in parks, where his enthusiasm for the outdoors truly shines.

While Bo is crate-trained and progressing on basic commands, he’s still learning how to interact calmly with other dogs. His high curiosity and excitement can sometimes lead to reactive behaviors like barking and pulling on the leash during encounters. With patience, positive reinforcement, and proper socialization, these behaviors will improve.

Bo has shown no signs of food aggression, and while he hasn’t been formally tested with other dogs, his playful personality suggests he may do well with a canine companion. Given his age and energy level, he’ll need a dedicated and patient family who can provide him with consistent training and guidance to help him mature into the amazing dog he’s destined to be.

If you’re looking for an affectionate, playful, and highly trainable Shepherd to join your family, Bo could be the perfect match! With love, patience, and plenty of adventures, he’s sure to thrive in his forever home.

Bo is a level 4 dog and his adopters will need to be puppy approved.

Adoption Process

Our adoption process is designed to help you and the right dog find each other. Our goal is to place each dog into a permanent, safe, and loving home.

To adopt a German Shepherd Dog from us, you must:

1. Live in Northern California.
2. Complete an Adoption Questionnaire, either online, or by mail. If you do not own your home, you must also have your landlord complete the Landlord Letter.
3. Be interviewed by an adoption counselor.
4. Allow a home visit by an adoption counselor.
5. Choose, and be chosen by, the right dog.
6. With our approval, sign our Adoption Agreement, and pay the associated fee.
7. At the time of adoption we also collect a deposit which is refunded after completion of two training sessions.

After we receive your online Adoption Questionnaire, we will call you to begin the adoption process. We encourage potential adopters to come to one or more Adoption Days, because that is the best way to meet several German Shepherds and to find your new companion. If you attend an Adoption Day and choose a dog, you may be able to adopt the same day, if all adoption requirements are met.

If you cannot come to any Adoption Day, we can still assist you, this may take longer because the people who will help you are volunteers who usually have jobs, and scheduling meetings with dogs can be complex because our dogs live in many homes and kennels.

We do not adopt to homes outside of Northern California.
