My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Athena, the gray tabby and white sweetheart. Athena originally came to the Shelter as an owner surrender after her previous guardian was moving and unable to continue caring for her. She lived in a home with a caged bird previously and coexisted nicely. Athena also was described as friendly with dogs but does not enjoy the company of other kitties. Athena spent some time in a foster home where her foster reports she is sweet, gentle and loving. In her most recent foster, she did not enjoy the company of the resident dogs but with a slow, thoughtful intro and well matched companions - she may enjoy a dog`s company. Athena is looking for an adoptive home that will keep her on a special diet due to some inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). This will require more frequent vet visits and monitoring but sweet, soulful Athena is oh so worth it. Her foster reports: `Athena is a pretty kitty full of love for people and enthusiasm for brushies! She likes to have a little dose of play, and then quickly settles into cozy slumber into Dreamland. She is an easy cat and happy to just hang out in a soft spot near humans. Athena would make a great work from home best friend!`

Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
