Starfruit is a 5-6 year old Chug who was surrendered to one of our rescue partners and brought into DPS Rescue. She weighs about 15 lbs and could stand to lose a few; we suspect her former owner's love language was food! She was quite overwhelmed when she first arrived but her foster home has really helped her settle in. Here is their report!
Starfruit is an incredibly sweet, easy-to-manage, and loving pup with a naturally shy demeanor. When she first arrived, she was very timid— spending her first day in her crate, hesitant to let us near her. On the second day, I approached her gently to make her feel safe. I was able to pick her up and hold her and slowly, she began to trust me.
Now, she has completely blossomed! She follows me everywhere like a little shadow and sleeps right beside me. She absolutely loves her walks and eagerly comes to me for pets every three hours. Starfruit is also incredibly smart— she picks up commands quickly, usually after hearing them just twice.
She is a total cuddler, always wanting to be close. She's not a huge fan of her kibble but will eat it with a meal topper. She is an affectionate, well-mannered companion who has come such a long way since her first day.
Starfruit is quite the sleepyhead, spending about 18 hours a day snoozing! Her daily routine is simple yet structured. She starts her day with a potty break at 10 AM, followed by her first meal. Throughout the day, she enjoys lounging in her bed, primarily in the living room, though she loves to follow me around the house.
Her second potty break happens at 4 PM, and then again at 8 PM. Dinner is served between 7–8 PM, giving her enough time to relax before settling in for the night. When it's bedtime, she cozies up in her bed beside me, ready for another restful night. Starfruit’s routine is easygoing, just like her!
Starfruit is a total couch potato but she loves to go on walks and does a cute happy dance whenever her leash comes out! She walks well on leash unless startled by a scary noise or intimidating human.
Starfruit appears to be housebroken and is comfortable with her crate or staying alone in her playpen.
Her foster mom says: 'I fell in love with her because she ticked off every reason to fall in love with her. She is disciplined, if you teach her, she will learn, if you scold her, she understands, all she wants is your love, cuddles and daily belly rubs. She is the sweetest, and I am lucky to foster her!'
Starfruit is best suited to a home with some prior dog experience in their lifetime. She is an option for kids over the age of 8, provided they are the gentle sort.
