My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lightning is a 28-pound, one-year-old pup with a heart as big as the sky! While he was a little shy at first, once he gets to know you, he’s all about cuddles, playtime, and soaking up attention. He has been social with other dogs, playing with his buddy Contessa and his former housemates, and does fine around cats too. Since he didn’t walk on a leash in his previous home, he’s still getting used to it. A secure fenced yard would be ideal while he works on his leash skills. We think he’d gain confidence in a home with another friendly, well-adjusted dog. Lightning is a loving, playful pup looking for a home where he can shine.

PLEASE NOTE: All your current pets must be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention to adopt from Polka Dogz. We only adopt in Florida. All adoption fees go to help all the dogs in the rescue, some of which require extensive medical care. Thank you for caring for the greater good. FIRST step is to fill out a pre adoption application (www.polkadogz.org). We check vet references, personal references and do home visits before adopting any pet. We also help match the right pet to the right home. All current pets in household must be spayed/neutered and on heartworm prevention (very important)
Adoption fees help us support all the dogs in our rescue, some of which cost thousands in medical bills. Thank you for caring about the greater good!

More about this rescue

We strive to educate the public on responsible pet ownership. We rescue many dogs with heartworms, injuries nad those who have been victims of severe neglect and/or abuse. Maverick is a perfect example. He is paralyzed and we work daily with him to hopefully help him walk again.
