Vienna Sausage is a 5 year old Chihuahua mix who was a rescue from the shelter. She's a petite lil gal who weighs about 12 lbs. She's one of those dogs who may not quite stand out from the crowd at first glance, but she has the most amazing personality and is the kind of dog that everyone would want to own!

Vienna is a total sweetheart. She bonded quickly with her foster family, a multigenerational household (grandparents on site). She is a little nervous when she first meets a new person but she warms up pretty quickly, especially with treats. She loves to cuddle and rests on the sofa with us all day, and sleeps on the 9-year-old’s bed at night with him. She does not follow her folks from room to room, but perks up and watches when they go into the kitchen. She loves to go on outings and she is very calm. She rode around in the cart at Ikea one busy day and curiously watched all the activity. She's ready for adventures, wherever they may take you!

Vienna eats breakfast when she gets back from her morning walk and jumps back onto the bed where her doggie bed and heating pad are. She rests there while the family gets ready for their day. Sometimes she stays home with her cat brother. She is happy to stay in a crate when the family goes out if she doesn’t go along. She cries a little but settles down quickly. She goes out for short walks in the yard all throughout the day. She eats dinner around 5pm and then goes out for another longer walk. Vienna has the perfect balance of playful and lazy: She is a mix- she loves to lounge but also wants to engage in play sometimes too!

Vienna will use potty pads and also tells her foster when she needs to go out. Her bladder is small because she is so tiny! She has access to potty pads during the night and uses them reliably.

She is crate trained. The first night, as soon as the lights went off, she jumped off the bed and into her crate on her own! Since then her fosters have had her sleep with them on the beds because they love to cuddle with her, but she would happily sleep in the crate if that is what her new person prefers.

Foster mama says: 'She’s so stinkin’ cute and tiny- when we come in the door, she wiggles around in excitement and pins her ears back. I think it’s funny when she runs at the cat but then when she gets to him, just stops because she realizes he’s twice her size! The cat just looks at her in amusement.'

Vienna could be your work from home buddy. She could be an office dog. She could stay home while you work! She could be in a home with dogs and/or cats, or she could be your one and only. She's quite versatile!

Vienna is an option for any type of home that is ready and willing to spoil her rotten. She is an option for kids over the age of 6; smaller ones might startle and scare her.

More about this rescue

We are passionate folks who love dogs and love people! We strive to make the most appropriate match between human and canine. Because our dogs live in foster homes we know about their temperament and personality and therefore can help families and individuals decide if the dog is a good match or not. We are excited to help people find the right pooch for them and look forward to meeting great folks and welcoming them into the DPS Family.
