My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Katona arrived at a shelter in Texas as a public drop off on 1/12/2025. She was on "hold"  for 4 weeks because the shelter thought she had an owner coming for her. Turns out there was no owner and poor Katona sat there all that time needlessly. NorthStar pulled her out of the shelter on 2/6.

Katona is house trained and crate trained. While she looks like a Chihuahua mix, there seems to be some gazelle mixed in as she can jump over the baby gates in foster mom's home when she really wants to. She is dog friendly (all sizes) and good with cats (she is slightly afraid of them so keeps her distance).

Katona's favorite pastime is sitting at the window and watching passersby. She will bark at them occasionally. She has a low gravely bark  - not the normal high pitched Chi bark. She enjoys being held and will roll over for tummy rubs. She also snores but it’s a cute snore.

Katona is 7 years old and weighs 14 pounds. In addition to being dog friendly (all sizes), she has met her foster mom’s 5-year-old granddaughter and behaved perfectly. Also, Katona loves to go for walks and is a dream on a leash. And she rides well in the car.

If you're looking for a happy little Chihuahua, please consider checking out sweet Katona. Just fill out an application at Home - Northstar Pet Rescue and ask for her by name - KATONA TX!

More about this rescue

In many areas of the country, especially in the South, the situation for animals is desperate: Chained outside and starving, homeless and running loose, or just simply no longer wanted and abandoned in an overburdened and underfunded facility that can’t possibly take another. For these animals, there is not much hope…except to look in the night sky for the North Star, their only way out. We are a group of passionate volunteers committed to saving these innocent dogs and finding them a new forever home. NorthStar Pet Rescue was founded in 2017, and although we might be a relatively new name among New Jersey animal rescues, you may recognize some of us from the work we’ve done volunteering with other rescues to help animals over the past decade. We are 100% dedicated to operating in an safe, transparent, and ethical manner and to ensuring the best veterinary practices are followed with regards to the care and transport of our animals. NorthStar Pet Rescue is IRS 501(c)(3) charitable organization (EIN: 81-5348036).
