Name: Thor Breed Guess: Beagle/Basset mix Age: 9 years old Gender: Neutered Male Weight: 50 pounds Requires fenced in yard: no Shelter Temperament: Sweet & Friendly Children: Unknown Cats: Can test upon request Dogs: Meet and Greet Required Adoption fee: $300 Likes: Thor is new to us so we are still learning about him; please check back for updates soon! The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed. Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for the approved adopter and pet. Please understand that these animals are still new to us and their needs and requirements can change at any time as we learn more about them. We will try our best to get them updated online as soon as possible. All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped. Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.

Story
Julep loooooves her humans intensely and is an extreme snuggler. At 6, she spends plenty of her day curled up on the couch (which isn't a problem for us because she doesn't shed much). But she is also plenty energetic, active, and athletic when given the opportunity. Julep currently lives in a home with small children and gets along with them well, except that she can get jumpy when you come through the door, and my kiddos don't love that. She takes anxiety meds to tone down her excitability. I wouldn't give up this dog for anything in the world, except that since moving to a new home last year, I haven't been able to give her the care she needs. Julep does not get along with other dogs and cannot be allowed contact with them. I now live in a home next to a sidewalk where dogs are often walked, and my HOA doesn't allow me to have a style of fence that Julep can't climb. I'm looking for a loving home for our sweet pup where she can get exercise without having access to other dogs.

Story
Fiona is a very active, 30 pound beagle mix. She is crate trained and doing good with house training but does have some accidents. She does use a pee pad if it’s down. Fiona is hesitant at first to approach strangers but the more she is out in different situations the more comfortable she is getting about meeting new people. This girl is very food motivated and will do almost anything for a little piece of hotdog. Her new family will need to give her time to trust them. She is slow to warm up to people but when she knows she’s safe with you, she’s a snuggler. Also her new family will need to take her out around people and different situations to build her confidence more.    Fiona would do best in a very active home to release some of her energy and with another doggie friend to help build her confidence.    If you are viewing this pet's profile on Petfinder or Adopt-a-Pet,.please use the application link at the bottom of the profile to apply. Clicking the "Ask About" button does not submit an application. It only submits a question which will delay an application submission.    All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested negative (age 7 months and older) and microchipped. We do not ship or transport. A dog's adoption donation is $250. There is a $5 fee for credit/debit cards. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please fill out an online application here: www.heartlandsmallanimalrescue.org/canine-application.html ##2144453##
