Hello, I'm Jerry!
I am 9 or 10 years old, and I was neglected before I came to Midwest BREW. I lived outside, either on a chain or in a kennel, for my whole life, and I never knew what it was like to be part of someone’s family. I've learned how to be an inside dog, and my foster mom said I have done well. I haven’t had any accidents, except for one time while I was on medication, and she said that wasn’t my fault.
I'm a healthy beagle now. I was underweight and had heartworms, but my foster mom and the vets have all helped me get better. I’m around 35 pounds now, and the vet says that it’s a good weight for me. I did have some flaky, itchy skin for a while, but I get fish oil in my food now and my fur is so soft!
I LOVE to snuggle on the couch with my people, with the other dogs in the house, or even on the couch without anyone else.
I am a low- to medium-energy boy. Most of the time, I am content to nap, but I usually get some daily zoomies for a bit. The dogs at my foster house don’t like to play, but I keep trying to get them to play anyway. Sometimes they play and it’s fun. If they don’t play, I can entertain myself. I like to throw my toys and then chase after them. My foster family also plays fetch with me, and it’s a great time. I can run fast. I would love to find a home where I have another dog to play with!
I do have some serious kennel anxiety, and a little separation anxiety as well. I have chewed through a muzzle and a kennel, even with medications to help me. I will need a home where I can have some space to move around if I’m home alone – either a gate or a playpen should work. The Foster mom uses pet gates and those seem to work ok. I like to explore the house, so it’s important to keep things put away where I can’t get to them.
I am really good with older kids, but haven't been around little ones. My foster mom isn't sure about how I will do with cats either. I sleep really heavily, so I bark if I’m surprised when I wake up. I do ok in the car, and I’m getting better about it. I try to wander through the car to sniff everything, but my foster mom keeps me in a harness so I stay safe.
I like to say hello to people who walk past my yard outside, and I like to bark a little when I get excited – like right before I get my dinner. Foster mom tells me to be quiet, and I am good about stopping after that. I’m just so excited for everything!
