**IF THIS LISTING IS STILL POSTED THIS DOG IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. NO NEED TO EMAIL ASKING IF THE DOG IS AVAILABLE. PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS BIO THOROUGHLY AS INFORMATION ON HOW TO APPLY IS CONTAINED IN THIS LISTING** For Adoption: Kova! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. Let me introduce you to Kova who is about 3mths old. Kova is a mix of Beagle and Pomsky (pomeranian and husky cross. Although sometimes in the puppy mill world this could mean eskimo spitz, based on her size we suspect the latter). Kova currently weighs about 14 pounds and is going to be a smaller sized dog likely no more than 20 to 25 or so pounds. Kova is still a sweet little puppy with thick soft puppy fur that is a gorgeous tri-colour with her body being mostly tan, a long stretch of black down her back fading into grey down her sides and with some cute white on her head, chest and legs. Her paws are so white that it looks like she is wearing white socks! Kova is such a sweet natured dog and you can see it when you look into her beautiful dark brown eyes that show such curiosity and wonder for her surroundings. Kova and her siblings were unfortunately puppy mill discards that didn’t find a home, so Pound Dog Rescue took them in to give them the best chance at finding their forever homes. Kova was full of joy and excitement when we brought her into our home and it didn’t take long for her to warm up to her surroundings! She loves to check everything out and has such confidence to explore and do whatever she wants to do. This girl is certainly a leader and is always initiating play time, or initiating a good sniffing hunt in the backyard. Kova would do well in pretty much any home situation as she is a pretty easy going gal. She absolutely loves all of her other foster dog siblings and wants to run around and play with them all the time. When they are outside it is constant playing and sniffing out those real good scents, getting zoomies to run from one end of the yard to the next, she also loves searching for sticks to chew on. Once she comes in there is always more play time, then some independent play with a toy or chew bone, and then she will find a nice quiet and comfy place to take a nap. Kova certainly doesn’t let her size get in the way of playing, she has no problem initiating wrestling matches and tug of war with the big dogs, she certainly thinks that she is one of them! Kova’s ideal home would have a playful male dog for her to expel some energy, but we also think Kova would do well as an only dog. She would like to be the only female dog in the home so she can be the princess off the house! Kova can at times be a stubborn little girl and she wants to do things on her own time and thinks she can do whatever she wants, when she wants to do it. She will need experienced dog owners who can train her well and not let her get away with things. Kova is also currently living with a cat, she has not had much exposure to the cat other than to see her on her perch, but she has not shown much interest in her. Kova also lives with two teens in the house, considering she is still a puppy we have not noticed too much mouthing except for when she is really excited and they are down playing on the floor with her, but when it does happen we are quick to correct and she is very responsive to correction. She loves when the kids get down on the floor and play with her! When she gets excited her little tail will wag a mile a minute, and you can feel her heart beat racing! If there are kids in Kova’s forever home they should be ages 8+ and well versed with understanding proper dog play and interactions and be willing to work on training with her. Kova would love a big fenced in backyard to be able to run around and play in, she loves playing outside so much and it is probably her favourite thing to do. Kova should have a fully fenced, escape proof and dig proof backyard to ensure her safety when she is in the backyard. Being that she is mixed with both a Beagle and a Husky/Spitz type mix, both those dogs love to either follow their noses or try to escape! Kova is crate trained, so when it is bedtime or time for the humans to leave the house she happily walks into her crate and waits for a couple of treats, though sometimes you need to lead her in with the treats. Kova does initially make some noise when she is put in her crate during the day, and will yowl for a few minutes, but she does calm down and will stay quiet until you come back to let her out. When she goes in her crate at night she does occasionally let out a few yowls during the night, but it only lasts a minute or so and then she stops. Sometimes in the morning if we are taking a while to wake up she will let out a few low howls to remind us that she is in her bed. Because Kova does occasionally bark/whine in her crate, it is recommended that she go to a detached home so as to avoid disrupting neighbours. That being said, she will likely grow out of her yowling in the crate and it likely won’t persist for too long. Kova has been doing fairly well with her house training, but she does still have quite a ways to go to becoming fully housetrained, which will also come with time. When given the opportunity, she will pee outside whenever she has the chance, however she is still very young and still likes to pee whenever is convenient for her. She will need to be let out to pee about every 15-20 minutes during her “awake” time, to help with facilitating no accidents in the house. She is still pretty young and we are having less and less accidents each day, and this will continue to improve with her age and consistency. Overall, Kova is such a well-mannered little girl and has been an absolute dream to have. Once she gets some playtime outside she gets pretty tuckered out and is very well behaved inside. Kova will on occasion find an empty toilet paper roll to chew, but she is generally pretty good to only chew on her toys. Kova is a pretty chill and relaxed pup, she doesn’t mind hanging out in a different room then you and doesn’t feel the need to follow you everywhere you go. Kova loves attention and if you are petting another dog, you can bet that she’s going to push her way through to make sure that she can get in on some of the pet action too. When it comes to downtime in front of the TV, Kova thinks that the only place for her is in your place or sharing the seat with you. Whether your settling in for your favourite show, a good movie, or to play some video games, Kova will get herself comfortable on your lap and then sleep the entire way through until you’re ready to get up. Kova is a really good eater and her favourite time of the day is meal time! She is extremely food motivated which will make training a bit easier of an experience. When her food bowl is ready to go she will go and wait outside of her crate with so much excitement and energy and wait for you to put her bowl in and then she will eat it right up. Kova has been a good passenger in the car when we have gone out, she has been crated during all of her drives. She has been on just a few car rides but for all of them she was just a little vocal for the first few minutes then settles in to sleep for the remainder of the drive. Kova has only been on some short quick walks as we have been working on getting her comfortable with the leash and going out in public areas. Kova is still pretty young so she is still learning and understanding about walks, as she gets older she will require longer walks, but so far she has a great relationship with the leash and enjoys being out and about. Obedience training will be a must with Kova as it will help her develop a wonderful relationship with her new family, but also it will help her to understand what is expected of her and help set out rules in her new home. This should be followed by an advanced obedience class to get her to be the best girl she can be. I can’t stress enough how important advanced levels of training can be for your and your dog to help keep engaged and working and building on those base foundations! Being Kova is still such a young puppy, we will only consider a home for her where someone is home or has the capability to come home throughout the day. Puppies need to be taken outside for bathroom breaks very regularly when they are small and will not be able to hold it for an 8 hour work day. We are also looking for a family or person that is fully aware of the time commitment of a puppy and the work involved. Puppies are a total joy and bring so much love and happiness into a home, but you cannot underestimate the work and time involved in raising a puppy properly. They need constant supervision while young to expedite the house training stage and to ensure they aren’t chewing on anything inappropriate. As Kova is too little to be spayed at this time, she will need to come back to our vet in Cambridge to have this done at a later date (around 6 months of age). Therefore we need a commitment from her forever family to take her to our specific vet to have her fixed when the time comes. Kova’s adoption will be conditional on this commitment. Our vet is in Cambridge and therefore we will only consider a home for her that is a reasonable distance (within an hour) from Cambridge that can accommodate a drop off and pickup there to have her surgery done. Kova is looking for her forever family with someone who will spend their time walking and playing with her, going to training class, and someone who will relax with her at the end of the day. Ideally she would like to have a large fenced yard with another young playful dog to keep her company and run around with. Kova is such a beautiful, energetic and sweet natured dog and she is looking for someone who will love her forever and be active with her. Kova has been such an easy dog to love, her eyes and mannerism say it all in how sweet she is, if you’re ready for your days to be filled with looking at her and your heart breaking in a happy way because of how sweet she is then maybe you are the home for her! **IF THIS LISTING IS STILL POSTED THIS DOG IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. NO NEED TO EMAIL ASKING IF THE DOG IS AVAILABLE. PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS BIO THOROUGHLY AS INFORMATION ON HOW TO APPLY IS CONTAINED IN THIS LISTING** For Adoption: Astra! Say hello to Astra, an adorable sweetheart who will melt your heart with her affectionate nature and capture your soul with her piercing eyes! Astra is a 12 week old Beagle and Pomeranian Husky mix (although sometimes in the puppy mill world this could mean Pomeranian/eskimo spitz, based on her size we suspect the latter) who will likely be under 30 lbs when fully grown, and is currently about 10 lbs. She’s absolutely stunning with her bright blue eyes against her striking black, brown, and creamy white coat. She has an adorable little black nose, tiny white socks, and floppy beagle ears. Astra is affectionate, playful, and very sweet. She loves cuddles as much as she loves playtime. She’s rather gentle for a very young puppy, and full of excitement for the world and for you! When you walk into a room she’s all wiggles and kisses. Astra had a difficult start to life, living in pretty rough conditions until recently when Pound Dog rescued her, but you would never know that now. Astra is a bright-eyed, happy puppy and a very good girl. All puppies are a lot of work but Astra is quite gentle and very good natured for such a young pup. She of course has her puppy moments, and will grab anything she can catch in her mouth while doing zoomies around the house or yard, shoes and shrubberies beware! She’s also a puppy-pee champion and could win contests I’m sure! Her bladder is still very small, so during the day when she has access to water she requires pee breaks every 15-20 min and therefore requires someone to be present to take her outside until she grows enough to hold it longer. She’s already come a long way at night however, and can hold it for four hours, so we only need to let her out once at night if we restrict her water a couple of hours before bedtime. Astra is very sociable and gets along well with her foster dog sibliing, they play chase together, do a bit of wrestling, and even share toys. Astra would love to be in a home with another dog(s), and while this is not necessary she would love to have one or more male siblings to play with. Astra has not shown any guarding behaviour so far, but she does like to test what her foster sibling will put up with. She will jump on her and grab at her tail or fur, typical puppy stuff but this means that she should only go to a home with other dogs that are friendly, playful, and tolerant of this puppy behaviour. Our dog is very tolerant and this means that Astra can get away with some things that other dogs may not like. For example Astra and her foster sibling will happily play tug together with the same toy, or she will take a toy directly out of our dogs mouth, which can be a deal breaker for many dogs. Astra will learn more about what is considered rude as she grows, but until then she should only be with very friendly, tolerant dogs. Astra hasn’t shown any interest in chasing small animals so far, but given her breed mix she may one day want to chase, so we wouldn’t recommend she go to a home with a cat that isn’t dog savvy. Being a pomsky beagle cross, Astra is happy to sing her songs and use her voice to make her feelings known. Especially when it comes to being alone. She always wants to be with you (preferably in your lap) and when she can’t be she will cry. Astra is learning that being alone isn’t scary, and has come a long way here but will cry or howl for a little while when by herself, before quieting down. This means that she wouldn’t do well in an apartment or condo or in a home with shared walls. She’s actually pretty quiet most of the time, only barking when she’s very excited, but she is still learning to be independent and that she is fine to be alone for short times, and will take a bit more time until she’s confident being left alone. With consistent practice she’s already improved in the short time we’ve had her. Astra is ready to explore the world, see all the sights, listen to all the sounds, and sniff all the smells that she can get her little beagle snoot on. She enjoys her short walks, which are still short because it’s cold and she’s so little, and will happily check out all the sights and smells on her walk. She is still a bit nervous and shy of new things and people though and so just needs more exposure with you by her side to help her build more confidence. Each morning when Astra wakes up she eagerly greets you at the door to her crate and pops directly into your lap for cuddles and kisses before heading outside to do her business. She already knows how to pee on command which is so nice given how cold it can be. Astra is crate trained and finds her crate to be a safe place to relax, but she will cry in her crate for a bit at first when left alone. She usually quiets down after 10 min, rarely more than that but occasionally it takes 20 min or so before she relaxes or falls asleep. She eats her meals very happily in her crate, or sometimes rolls around a kibble ball which is so funny to watch. Sometimes she thinks that if she just squishes it with her two front paws that the ball will voluntarily offer up it’s tasty morsels. Astra is also happy to do some training with her kibble, and has already learned how to ‘sit’ and do a ‘down’ on command. Astra enjoys her play sessions with her foster sister, they often chase each other around the yard or like to wrestle in the dog bed. She also does this adorable thing where she grabs toys around the house one at a time and takes them to her crate or her bed where she hoards them like a dragon hoarding her treasures, happily chewing away in a nest of stuffies. Her usual daily routine consists of games like fetch or tug, general playtime, meal times, plenty of bathroom breaks, and naps in her crate or even in our lap. She will happily chew away on a toy or treat on the couch with you while watching TV. Astra really enjoys her crate and retreats to it if she feels nervous, it makes her feel safe and secure. Astra is still learning to only go pee outside. She will go on command however she does have some accidents on the floor or in her crate because she’s still so young and can’t hold it for long. She needs to go out right after a good play, a nap, or if she’s recently had a meal or a big drink of water. Astra likes to chew puppy teething sticks, she will chase little bouncy balls or stuffies, and will even bring them back to you. Astra loves to chew (she is a puppy after all) and so will need a safe home with good chew toys and nothing left out that could hurt her. She will try everything at least once including blankets, shoes, slippers, plants, etc. She is super easy to redirect though and once given a good toy she’s happy to chew something more appropriate. It will be important for her new family to teach her what is and isn’t ok to chew, and equally important to stay strong (and avoid laughing) even when Astra thinks stealing your slippers and escaping under the couch with them is a great game, and remember she will use those baby blues to manipulate so be firm and don’t give in! Astra is a very sweet dog and while we haven’t had her for long it’s clear that she responds well to training. She wants to make you happy and it shows, when you’re happy with her she does full body wiggles and tail wags and really wants to give kisses. Astra will require obedience training and will greatly benefit from the bond it will create between her and her family. She will specifically require strong recall training with her breed mix, so she should be leashed when outdoors in an open area and you need to be sure that in every situation she will come when called for her safety. Astra does very well in the car, and is happy to relax or even sleep in her crate. She does sometimes cry for five or so minutes but quickly calms down. She will need continued practice here so that she develops more confidence, making car trips fun adventures for her. Another wonderful thing about Astra is that she’s easy to handle. She is comfortable being pet anywhere, easy to clean her ears or clip her nails, she was even super well behaved during her bath, with her spending most of her time trying to drink the water or just leaning into my arms. She was very sweet at the vets and even dozed off for part of it, only fussing when she had to get one of the larger needles for her microchip done. Astra would do best with a fenced in yard where she is safe and can be supervised outdoors at all times while she’s still young. She would do best with two or three good walks a day (shorter ones while young), and will grow into a very active dog that would benefit from longer activities and hikes. She is going to be a very energetic dog that requires a lot of fast paced exercise when older. She will not be suitable for those who can only accommodate a short, slower paced walk. Although she won’t be big, she will be very athletic and very active and only those who are currently very active and outdoorsy people should consider this cute puppy. Astra is the type of dog that will form a very strong bond with her family, and will want to go everywhere with you, exploring new places and meeting new people. With proper training, exercise, and mental stimulation Astra will grow up to be a close companion. She is super sweet, often silly, and entirely entertaining. She will make you smile frequently and at the end of a fun-filled day Astra will curl up in your lap to cuddle the night away… or sprawl across it, or flop upside down onto it, or climb into your sweater, endless comfy possibilities. Astra will be fine in a home with children over 8yrs of age who know how to properly interact with a puppy. It has been so much fun fostering Astra and now that she’s been given a chance at a great life she’s ready to pounce on it, and then directly into a fluffy snowbank. Astra deserves to grow up happy and healthy, and to live a great life full of new experiences, joy and play, love and laughter, and plenty of cuddles! Does this sound like your perfect companion? Anyone interested in Astra needs to live within one hour of Cambridge, Ont as she must be returned to our vet at six months of age to be spayed. She will be adopted out on a contract that stipulates this and it is mandatory. This is covered in the adoption fee. **IF THIS LISTING IS STILL POSTED THIS DOG IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. NO NEED TO EMAIL ASKING IF THE DOG IS AVAILABLE. PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS BIO THOROUGHLY AS INFORMATION ON HOW TO APPLY IS CONTAINED IN THIS LISTING** For Adoption: Dawson! Introducing Dawson. This high energy little man is quite the looker! With his bright blue eyes, and his tricolor coat he is definitely a unique little pup. Dawson is a mix of beagle and pomsky (pomeranian and husky cross. Although sometimes in the puppy mill world this could mean eskimo spitz, based on his size we suspect the latter) Although it is hard to say we think Dawson may end up being around 25-30lbs when he is full grown. Dawson has come to PDR after being discarded by a puppy mill. From the moment he walked into his foster home he has been all goofs and sass! He is a very personable pup and has warmed up immediately to all the people he has met . He is an energy-packed puppy who loves to zoom around and wrestle with his foster siblings. Like a typical puppy, Dawson is currently teething so EVERYTHING goes in his mouth. His future forever family will need to keep a close eye on him as he continues to learn what is safe for chewing and what is not. Dawson is showing himself to be quite a smart little boy and is picking up on the routine of day to day life quite quickly. He has been learning about crate training, and spends his evenings and times when his foster family is out of the house in his crate. While he is quite calm sleeping in his crate at night he does still take a few minutes to settle while being crated during the day. Crate training is an excellent tool to keep puppies safe when they are unattended and to help them develop a sense of independence while not with their “pack”.Dawson has had a visit with the vet and has been given his puppy vaccinations, and has been treated for fleas/ticks/intestinal parasites. It should be noted that Dawson has not yet been neutered. Anyone interested in adopting him will need to live within 1hr of Cambridge, ON as he must be returned to our vet at 6 months of age to be neutered. He will be adopted out on a contract that stipulates this and it is mandatory. This is covered in the adoption fee. So far he has shown to be tolerant of grooming needs such as baths and nail cuttings. Like most puppies this silly boy loves to play hard! He loves playing tug of war and running around the house chasing his foster siblings or fetching toys. His foster family is working on teaching him how to relax as well as play politely, as this is a skill that puppies develop over time. When he finally sits still he loves a good cuddle with his foster humans and doggy siblings. Dawson has been learning to walk on leash, and has started taking small walks outside through the neighborhood. He is also working on his house training, which like most puppies is a work in progress that requires consistency from his humans and lots of patience. He often gets distracted while out in the yard and forgets that he has a job to do! His forever family should know that puppies need to be taken outside for bathroom breaks very regularly when they are small and will not be able to hold it for an 8hr work day. He can only hold it during the day for a max of 3 to 4 hrs at this age so his forever family will need to be able to accommodate a puppy schedule. He is also still waking up once in the night for a potty break. We are looking for families that are fully aware of the time commitment of a puppy and the work involved. Puppies are a total joy and bring so much love and happiness into a home, but you cannot underestimate the work and time involved in raising a puppy properly. Dawson would do best with a fenced in yard where he is safe and can be supervised outdoors at all times while she’s still young. Although he won’t be big, he will be very athletic and very active and only those who are currently very active and outdoorsy people should consider this cute puppy.Dawson has shown to have quite the bold personality! He is smart as a whip but also has a lot of opinions on what he likes to do! He is quite the vocal little gentleman which is quite common for husky and spitz breeds, because of this we do not recommend that he go to a forever home in an apartment or condo; he will need a detached home. He will need a family that understands how important boundaries are for puppies, even when he voices his disagreement. Dawson has been very well behaved with the other dogs that he has met, and so far has not shown any interest in small animals outside. He has not been tested with cats. We think he would do well with an older dog sibling to show him the ropes, but also would do great as a solo dog in a home.Because of his age he needs a family with children 8 years of age or older who can handle puppy antics, be careful to close doors, and understand that sometimes hands look like toys when playing and can be nipped. Dawson has been such a treat to foster! His spunky high energy personality is keeping everyone up and moving, and his sweet snuggles and kisses certainly warm the heart. This little dude has a lot to offer, and would be perfect for an active home who love the outdoors and exploring the world. Think this could be you? Apply today!
