Story
Meet LuLu, a sociable, energetic 10-year-old beagle/shepard mix. Her favorite things are people (especially kids), car rides and walks. LuLu is well loved by her owners and was raised as an indoor dog, but because of family circumstances, she is currently living outside. She misses her daily human interaction and would thrive with a family that can spend time with her, take her on car rides and daily walks. Although diagnosed with hip dysplasia, but this does not dim LuLu’s outlook on life or her ability to take short walks. Her owners are looking to rehome her to a family that will be able to provide for her needs and give her lots of love and attention. This girl is heartworm negative, spayed and up-to-date on her vaccines. All you have to do is meet this sweet, senior pup to fall in love with her. LuLu’s adoption fee has been sponsored. Please apply at apsofpc.org. #apsofpc #seniordogAugust 14, 2024, 4:23 pm

Story
Bella is a prominently Beagle, Terrier mix. Born in July, 2012 my kids and I have had her since she was 4 weeks old. The kids are grown now and it’s just been me and her. The only reason I need to rehome her is last year I fell and broke my arm and had to move in with my daughter. Her landlord wanted me to move and where I am now I can’t have her. And until I can get back on my own and in a pet friendly place i don’t want to take her to the shelter. And I work all the time so she’d spend a lot of time alone. Being a senior dog she’s in great heath. Her coat is still shiny and her teeth are beautiful. She’s do better in a single pet home. She’s a little moody with other pets. I think cause she’s a little jealous butt. She’s ok with kids as long as they don’t hit or jump on her. There’s so much more to tell to anyone interested in her. I’d love to find her a loving family like she was raised in. She loves to cuddle. She’s an inside pet and would be a great champion to someone.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.UPDATE:  Lillie Blackstone received special attention from volunteers yesterday! She accepted her princess crown with grace, and then enjoyed a twenty-minute positive-reinforcement training session with volunteer Alexis. Due to her anxiety. it’s been difficult for us to help Lillie be relaxed and calm, so we did add a Thundershirt for a period of time. There are many different training methods and assists available to us at the shelter, and we always rely on positive reinforcement, making the shelter as pleasant as we can. We have found that after just a few days at the shelter, when dogs go out walking with the volunteers and come back to the door to go in, their tails wag and they are happy to be with us. That’s good! That’s our goal for every dog, to be happy during the day, and to use that happiness to help them adjust to a new home. Check the additional photos and videos of Lillie in the comments. Lillie is looking for a home where she can have an understanding family. We feel a fenced yard would be in order due to her desire to roam and wander.. Lillie is wonderful with small children, and has become very adept at adjusting to dogs that stay out of her face. She is about 42 pounds, housetrained, spayed, microchipped. We are working so hard to find her a home!     Lillie earned a new name after being called "Blackie" for a few weeks. We admire her ability to adapt, despite first being abandoned and then transitioning to "shelter dog." We have high hopes that she can find a home where she can be loved and adored! Nice size, lived with children for a short time. She does not like other dogs up in her face and needs some time to get to know them. She has done well with Lewis, a mind-your-own-business dog who is easy care and has few cares in the world. And, the more time we spend with her and the more opportunities she is  given to socialize with other dogs on a positive note, she has done well with them. We think she probably still prefers male dogs to females, but  are open to anything out at this point. Lillie  is house trained, but likes to urinate a lot (we call her a “frequent pee-er”) and she has a very discerning nose. She loves to put her nose to the ground and follow it when she smells good things. Her spay has helped her calm down, and she can focus on being a good family dog now.      Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 19, 2024, 12:11 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Baby Beagle isn’t a baby at all, but that was the name she came with, so we are leaving it! She is fostered in a home where another dog about her size adores her, and a cat who seeks her out and invites her to play. Sometimes you just never know what you’re going to get! In this case, we thought we were getting an older dilapidated beagle girl who was going to need slow recovery time in a foster home. Instead, after successful surgery to repair a pretty intense hernia, this gal has rebounded and turned into a spring chicken!   Baby has come SO far since she was brought to us by the family who said they rescued her from being a stray in their mobile home park! We have no clue about the validity of her origin, other than that she is well-socialized, loves children, is fine with cats, AND is gentle with other dogs! She is hanging out now in a home with another nice beagle mix, and pays little attention to him, as she seems infatuated with toys and her toy basket.  Now that medically she is healed, she is feeling pretty fantastic! It was not an easy fix for her, as she needed  surgery to correct a hernia that allowed her intestines, uterus, and her bladder to move around. She is now healed, and was declared to be ready for a new home!  Here is her own bio: "I'm a chunky-monkey and I love treats, smelling everything I can get my sniffer close to, and running far away from the humans who want to walk me on a leash! I love putting my nose to the ground, and I can focus really well once I smell something enticing and yummy! I might want to go to work as a police dog or an enforcer at the airport screening the good things that come in through International gates! Yes, I'm that good! Although I'm an older lady, I am fine getting around and can give you a run for your money.  I lived on my own in a mobile home park for several weeks, according to one of the stories I heard going around, and I'm fine with other dogs. Mostly, I do love sniffing and eating!"      Baby is positive for heartworms, and is being treated with the least-aggressive method we know, which is monthly medication to kill the new microfilaria and allow the mature heartworms to die off slowly. This method is the one we prefer for active dogs that would have a hard time limiting their activity level during the two-month course of treatment if we used the aggressive injectable immiticide to kill off adult heartworms. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 19, 2024, 12:11 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. From stray to shelter dog: meet Hal!  He is about 45 to 50 pounds, short legged, could be a beagle/lab/pitbull mix. He was already neutered when he showed up. He prefers female dogs to males. He gets real excited when he sees females, but he gets grumpy when he sees male dogs. He is great with all humans, house trained, ready to go to a new home.     What can we say about Hal? Well he is a “leaner,” and he’s devoted to humans, and he really loves going out for walks with the volunteers. That’s our start; we don’t know much about him because he came in as a stray and despite being neutered, we have no way of knowing to whom he belongs. Perhaps he was left behind when someone moved or perhaps he was given away and his new family doesn’t know he’s missing. Regardless, he seems OK with the other dogs around though we have not specifically tested him. The family who found him in their neighborhood, had children and thought he was OK with the children, but we don’t have small kids to test with at the shelter right now. He has always been pleasant every time I have seen him. We hope he finds home quickly because he is really a handsome boy!   PLEASE NOTE: This pet has been posted by Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Rustburg, VA.
