Story

Ash is 3-year-old Belgian Malinois mix who is smart as well as loving. She sits nicely whenever the possibility of a treat comes around and also sits and waits for her meals to be served. She has even taught herself to go to the door when she has to go out. Don’t worry, if you’re not around to see it, she’ll give you a verbal warning. Ash is housebroken and kennel trained, although she prefers a treat or two when entering her kennel. Ash is super sweet and affectionate. She is quick to bond with her human and is a master cuddler and leaner. She is very curious and will want to follow you everywhere you go and watch everything you do. She is a bit of a nervous nelly when it comes to meeting new people and, in true Malinois fashion, she tends to be vocal about her fear. She needs a human who will be understanding and patient with her when it comes to introducing visitors and new friends. Dog introductions should be conducted slowly as well. Ash takes a few days to warm up to her new environment but once she does, her personality shines through. She can run all day in the yard with her furry foster siblings or crash just about anywhere when it’s time to wind down. She loves any and all kinds of toys and will throw them around all by herself. She is an awesome puppy that would bring heaps of love and energy to anyone willing to adopt her. After being rescued from a Texas shelter, NorthStar discovered that Ash has a severe congenital deformity that will lead to congestive heart failure. She will need to be monitored closely for any symptoms (exercise intolerance, coughing, shortness of breath). She is currently on medication for her condition and seeking the care of a cardiologist is recommended. Unfortunately, Ash's longevity will be affected and the doctors feel that she will most likely not reach the age of 5 years. When NorthStar rescued Ash, we never expected that she would have such a short life but we are determined to make what time she has left the best we can. Ash is looking for a very special adopter who will love this sweet girl and give her the care she needs for the rest of her life. Darius is a very special boy. He is a huge favorite of the shelter staff and volunteers! Darius is very affectionate, well behaved and playful. He is also gentle, social and very smart. This loving fellow gets along with other dogs and people. We do not know what he thinks of cats. So with all that he has going for him, everyone, (including Darius), cannot figure out why adopters keep passing him by. We all love Darius and would be very sad to see him leave but we want him to live his life in a home and as part of a wonderful family. Darius is about 10-11 months old and 42 pounds. Mom decided the neighbor boxer mix boy was much more interesting then an arranged match. Dajon is very smart, super social and playful. He is good with other dogs but will chase a cat. His foster Mom says: "He is completely potty and crate trained. He knows sit, down and is working on stay." Dajon is about 10-11 months old and 41 pounds. Autumn is a young mother with 3 puppies, she did not have a good life on a chain and neglected.Autumn is a smart, spunky, happy girl who has shown herself to be incredibly loyal to her people. She still has a lot of puppy energy and will need an owner who understands her need to work and is willing to provide her with the physical and mental exercise she needs. Autumn would love a job! Bruce is a 9-month-old GSD/Lab Mix who weighs 58 lbs. A friend of ours purchased him as the last of a litter at a flea market and gave him to us. He is up to date on vaccinations. Bruce is house trained & crate trained. He still needs some help with his leash training (he loves to walk, he just isn’t good at it.) He chases our cats but doesn’t hurt them. Bruce does get along with dogs EXCEPT one of our dogs. He hasn’t been exposed to children but he’s very rough and nippy so he would be a better fit in a home that had school aged children. The reason for surrender is our 4-year-old dog and him get along 90% of the time but the other times they can fight. I’ve broken up their fights and been bit during the altercation but he has NEVER just come after a human and bit someone other than normal puppy nipping. We have noticed some resource guarding with food and certain toys, but AGAIN ONLY with our one dog. He is a very sweet boy otherwise and silly. Bruce is NOT with 11th Hour Rescue but we are networking him for a more appropriate placement.
