Story
Liza & Layla are a bonded pair of Bernedoodle pups, about 1 year old who were likely dumped by a breeder in a rural area and survived for about a month by being fed by farmers in the area until GRRAND was notified and asked to help them! It was very hard capturing them as they are so fearful, but after one getting away, and then found again, we have them both and are trying to help them understand they do not have to fend for themselves and what love is all about! We are happy to say, they are in a foster home and things are going great! They say: "These girls are great and they do want and need a lot of attention, but they have come such a long way. The girls are very sweet, loving, smart and trainable and they will on command: Sit, Go to their rooms, Come when called, Drop it and leave it and they understand 'no ma’am'. Liza is coming into her personality... she is playful, she is scrappy and she loves to cuddle and to be told she is gorgeous! She loves her sister Layla. She can be shy.  She loves my husband and wants his attention, and gets upset when he leaves. Layla likes to watch tv and she really gets into it. (They both are reactive to dogs on the TV) We always have a TV on for them and we also have the Alexa’s on with calming sounds for them.  She loves to cuddle with anyone... she is laid back Layla.  A family with a fenced in yard is a MUST. They are absolutely gorgeous and active and are used to an active home with a stay-at-home dog mom. We play ball in the yard, the girls will run and play with each other and they play with my special needs Havanese too. They both love to run, play, wrestle with each other, play with toys and chew bones. They really are a team.  If you are looking for an active pair, these are your girls, as they go on at least one 2.5 mile walk (they both walk well on lead) a day and often we meet up with friends in the neighborhood and go for a second 2–3-mile walk and they love people. Often people come up to them on the walk just to say hi and to love on them, but when people don’t give them attention, they are bummed.  They do like dogs and they play really well with my two.  We haven’t exposed them to other dogs much.  I do have a friend with a mini yorkie puppy and they had one play date that went really well. The second play date Liza was territorial over me and didn’t want the puppy near me and she can get that way.  I correct her so she isn’t a bully and I don’t think she would ever hurt, she is just trying to set a boundary. They are good at counter-surfing, but we are working on that. They are crate trained but we don’t lock them in their crates/rooms often and  (I don’t like for them to be in their rooms unless they want to be.)  at night they have full run of the house. Most of the time they are in bed with us or in our bedroom along with our other two or sometimes they are in their rooms on their own free will.  They love the water. We had issues in the beginning with them jumping the fence around the pool to play on the pool cover and splash pool water.  Layla likes to be brushed, and her hair is easier to maintain, but Liza doesn’t like to be brushed, and her hair will matte, so she will need regular grooming.   A home with someone willing to pay a good trainer and behavior therapist or at least one parent is a strong trainer is a must for these girls.  They are NO fans of car rides. From the kennel staff while they were there before their foster home: THEY MUST HAVE A SECURE ABOVE GROUND FENCED IN YARD as they are fearful and flight risks, and a home with NO KIDS UNDER the age of 16, as right now, the GRRAND kennel staff say IF you stand very still, and very quiet, they may come up and take a piece of food from you, but they take off again. They are starting to come around and trust people and need a home with folks who have lots of patience and are willing to work with them over time to teach them about life as indoor loved family members. We would be willing to consider separating the littermates, but do not want to leave one behind in the kennel if her sister was to leave, so we are looking for a home that would take both of them and either adopt them as a pair or adopt one and foster the other until another home could be found for her.  If separated, the pups will definitely need homes with another confident young dog that can help them gain their own confidence and show them the ropes. They BOTH LOVE playing with other dogs! With time and patience, they will come around, but need the correct family to help them work through their fears. Please fill out an app at GRRAND.org if you would like to meet Liza and Layla ##2080274##
